1. I dislike how "ASAP" no longer means what it means. Or at least, it seems that way. I regularly edit my emails to remove usage of "ASAP" because it seems to indicate "do this right the fuck now," not "as soon as you can, I understand that you may be busy."

2. My new CEO mispronounces the folllowing words:

• nuclear (Nuke-yalur)
• COBOL (cobalt)
• ManuLife (Manual-Life)
• Acura (a-CURE-ah)

3. That is all.

1. My Indian clients use English in bizarre ways. "Please to be kindly sending..." and other very floral manners of constructing their sentences. They read like love letters sometimes. I think I'm engaged to someone in Mumbai, but I can't be sure.

2. My stepfather drove me crazy with his words:

• dawn 'til dust (instead of dusk)
  
• a fat person is also called obeast (instead of obese)
  
• soder (instead of soda)
  
• idear (instead of idea)
  
• gordy (instead of doily)

My mother had a coworker who distorted words, too:

• one was bedstricken (instead of bedridden)
  
• she wanted ivory in her wedding bouquet (she meant ivy, thank goodness)
  
• if you have a headache, take Tide-and-all (instead of Tylenol)

soder and idear are also pretty common in Boston... I can't tell you how many times I've heard it.

My logic is that folks drop the letter "r" from some words and they feel the need to add that dropped letter elsewhere.

haha, yeah. my dad was born in Maine and grew up in Mass, so it's sort of ingrained in him. I grew up in CT, so we speak correctly :) and even after living in boston for 7 years, I don't say any of those.

Having lived in Maine, I can totally vouch for the fact that Mainers pronounce "idear". I giggled the whole time I was there.

I believe that the pronounciation of a trailing 'a' sound isn't really a error in pronounciation so much as a characteristic of your stepfather's accent. It goes beyond the North-Eastern US too; as far as I can tell, it's a common feature of many local accents within the UK and Canada.

Two questions:

1. In what context is your CEO required to use the word "nuclear". Nexient isn't planning any "hostile" takeovers of "small, well armed countries"...is it?

2. Isn't that how you pronounce Acura? Oh, never mind, I think I see how she's pronouncing it now. Hard "a"?
