I have a present for you!

As long as you = Canadian citizen (or interested in Canadian politics).

Cam's Pretty Clearly Left-Leaning Riding Write-ups!

I am planning to do a write-up of several different ridings, showing the candidates, the predictions, maybe a suggestion, and the previous results. And I'll do it for your riding! My goal is to provide information that everyone will find useful, not just people who agree with my politics. All I ask is that you post something you want to know about your riding that will help you decide how to vote. Alternately, tell me your goal for this election. Please be sure to tell me your riding too. Go here to find out.

Example: "I want to know if the Green Party has any chance at all in my riding, because I'd kinda like to support them if it will get them a seat."

Another example: "I think Stephen Harper will actually come into my home and steal my baby and force my child to work in a sweatshop with the homosexuals. I want to stop that."

The final example: "I want the Liberals out out out out out. Also, out."

Etc.

The riding profiles start tomorrow! For those of you uninterested, sorry in advance. I will try to post non-election programming for your benefit too.

Some of your American cousins will be interested to read either way. :-)

And "Riding" sounds a lot more fun than "Electoral District." :-D

Ooooh sounds like fun....I can do that for my own riding, but if you need a hand with any of the BC ridings - I know them all pretty well.

I live in Toronto Danforth. My goals are as follows:

- I never want to hear the words "Prime Minister Stephen Harper" in this lifetime;

- I want to punish Jack Layton for helping cause this moronic and unecessary holiday election;

- I can't figure out of Deborah Coyne supports same-sex marriage or not, and frankly, I never thought I'd come to the day where I'd end up voting for HER. Although bearing Pierre Trudeau's love child is kind of cool.

Okay, how do I vote on election day?

Paul Martin himself committed to calling an election in April(ish). So, while I wasn't that keen on having an election either, I'm hard-pressed to see why a couple of months difference is really pissing people off that much.

Though, because I’m curious to know if I made the right decision...

• I vote in Prince-Edward Hastings.

• I’d like to move back to Canada while maintaining my current net buying power.

• I’d also like tohave roughly the same level of access to health care as I have here.*

• I’d like to see Canada remain as liberal (note the small L) as it is now, if not become more so.

• I want to feel safe in most parts of the large city I choose to live in (most likely Toronto or Vancouver).

• I want European-level urban walkability and access to public transit and spaces.

*I can deal with waiting a little longer for doctor’s visits/test/etc... than I do here in exchange for gov’t rather than employer coverage so long as it’s a reasonable amount of time. Say, one month.

All I'd like to know is if our Conservative is male or female.
Name is Royal, um, something or other.
Is Royal feminine or masculine??

From: [identity profile] c9.livejournal.com
Well that I can answer without doing a whole profile. :-)

Royal's male.

Question from Kitchener-Waterloo:

Exactly how much of an effect does the large local student population have on the outcoem of the election and other than the obvious issue of education, how do the local candidates try influencing the voters' decisions?

It seems to me that many of the students that do vote do so in their home riding. The remaining ones seem largely appathetic. As a bloc, we're far less than impressive.

The short, maybe over-simplified answer is that most students don't vote, and don't care, and many don't live in the riding they study in. Basically, they are ignored. Not 100% true, but even though there are 30,000 students in Waterloo, the voters who are catered to are the families and seniors. This is true, for the most part, nationwide.

Sucks. Same problem in 1997 election when I was in university out east.

My riding is: Nepean--Carleton

Last election, Conservatives kicked out the then defense-minister and won by a fairly big margin.

This election, new Liberal candidate. Is PC a shoe-in or does anyone else have a chance?

I'll do up a profile for you, but I'd say already that your Conservative candidate will get back in. Unless the Liberal candidate is a big star, which he doesn't seem to be: http://liberal.ca/bio_e.aspx?id=35052&type=can
