188 Oakcrest Ave... hmm. it looks cute, but "priced to sell" and the exterior view make me think it's not in great condition. though, it does have central air and a finished basement.

It would be silly to go to Dufferin Station... they're only a few blocks from a north-south subway line. ;)

Ahh... that's why you suggest it. The Dufferin bus doesn't run very often. Not a great idea to take it.

I need a useful TTC reference that explains the bus routes to me. The maps I've seen use all the same colours for the different bus lines, so there's no way to tell where they go. Help!

On the maps, all TTC surface routes are red. The 500 series are the streetcars. You know the subways.

When you get into town, ask for a map at the collector booth. They have bigger ones that are easier to follow.

Vinny and I both were wide awake at 4am today, so I got up and researched the TTC more. I was raised on Ottawa's extensive bus system, so I was having a problem understanding which bus to take downtown. I have since learned that they're all (basically) serving the subway backbone, so it's much more obvious what each one does.

The one thing I haven't got yet, and maybe it's by design: I can find the departure time for the buses that go by the house, but how do I know what time they arrive at the subway station? Does it just not matter, so it's not published?

There's no easy way to find out how long it takes to get to the subway. You could try to figure it out by going through the schedule info, but it's a lot easier just to call (416) 393-INFO.

The + means that all branches of a route run along that section of the street. For example, I could take the 32A/B/C from Eglinton Station to Eglinton West Station. Instead of putting all of the letters, they stick the + sign.

I'd take the Broadview bus down. I'm guessing it would only take about 10 minutes to get to the subway and another 10-15 to get to Yonge & Bloor.

If you need lessons on how to ride the subway during rush hour, let me know. It's all about the elbows.

Thanks! I'm quite familiar with the subway at rush hour though -- we take it regularly when coming into the city, and I'm always at Yonge & Bloor (busiest station of them all) or Union Station (craziest morning station with the GO trains IMHO). Fun! I'm sure it'll grate on my nerves sooner or later though.

Yeah, kitchen in the basement. We ended up getting a little turned off by that one today, as you've seen from my later post.

Roselawn was stunning. If it were in a good neighbourhood and not a 15-minute walk to the subway, it might have won. Very nice design, good space, and *finished*. Definitely would be easier than what we chose. :)

Oakcrest wasn't bad, but had tons of interest that will likely be a bidding war today. It's on our backup list still if this one doesn't happen.
