Edit: I should note that identical tiles are not realistic, since I've checked Home Depot and Rona and not found them yet. :(

I'm gonna go with the hardwood option that the person above suggested - that's generally what people do when looking to fill a gap. Also, with the tiles - replace with the identical variety.
