I hate to say it, but that's it. Harper did OK, Martin looked desperate (get rid of the notwithstanding clause because you're nine points back?!?), Layton and Duceppe were powerless (unfortunately).

Unless the Liberals pull a trick out of their hat (and I think they're all out), we're looking at a Conservative minority or maybe even a majority in two weeks.

Goodbye tax cut for the poor, goodbye child care, goodbye my marriage (he says I can keep mine, but no new ones - ha!). It has to happen for the Liberals to renew themselves, but it's still shitty.

I dreamed that I was a strategist for Paul Martin. He met me in the morning and by the time of the debate he was taking all of his direction from me. And I told him that he needed to win the debate or he'd lose the election. In my dream, he struck me as a really nice man who sincerely wants to lead the country in order to improve it. But he was completely at a loss as to how to do it.

In my dream, I was still voting NDP. :)

That's not a dream, that's exactly what he's like, I have read in many places. He could have been a famous Canadian Finance Minister. Now he'll just be a failed Prime Minister. Too bad too.

In my dream he also talked about being Catholic, and I think maybe I converted him to atheism. Hopefully he's OK!

I'm rather scared myself. The conservatives will try to increase consumer spending and decrease national saving. This will not be good for the poor or the long-term economy.

I was impressed when the moderator asked Duceppe if the debate on gay marriage is closed why re-open the seperation debate since there have already been two referendums. And then his followup question that if Canada can be broken up, can Quebec? He was scrambling for that last one..

I agree, he didn't scramble. He ignored the facts of history, but he didn't scramble. :)

He claimed during the debate that Québec "joined as one," meaning that the current borders of Québec existed in 1867, when they did not.

The debate over Québec's borders primarily focuses on First Nations land, which was owned, so to speak, by the federal government, not the provincial government, at the time of Confederation.

Perhaps a PQ government can convince the 98.75% of First Nations people who voted to stay a part of Canada in 1995 to change their minds. Perhaps not. :) Should be interesting to watch, should it come to that.

The borders issue gets tricky no matter how it's played, really. Québec and Newfoundland & Labrador still don't agree on their border, and according to that map it's changed in Labrador's favour since 1931. I wonder what would happen there.

And by minority, I meant majority. I can deal with a minority. (Well, so long as Parliament is dissolved in six months.)

The next election won't be until mid-2007 at the earliest. Another election really fast would make people very angry ($265M a pop!)

Though, in the highly unlikely event of a Tory collapse almost immediately, the GG would probably ask the Liberals to give it a go.
