Las Vegas in February! 2-3 nights in crazy-ass Vegas, then 2-3 nights in roadside motels in NV, UT, and AZ. Unfortunately, I've just told you almost the full extent of our decisions on this topic.

Date: 2005-12-18 06:07 pm (UTC)I could easily fly up to Vegas to play with you guys, tho, if I know the dates in advance and I am not already traveling for work (see my journal for the latest) - it's like a 40-minute flight from PHX to LAS. If you would like, I could check into surrounding area attractions or unusual things to do, if you are looking for something to do away from the city. I know Hoover Dam is not far, but that's not exactly an amusement park. :-)

Date: 2005-12-18 06:01 pm (UTC)I stayed at the Barbary Coast -- right in the heart of the strip, shares an intersection with the Bellagio, Bally's, and Caesar's. Nice little boutique casino / hotel, reasonably priced too. It's more like old-style Vegas, and has one of the best restaurants in town in it.
When you get checked in, ask for room 410, 308 406, or 404... or 310, 308, 306, or 304... the reason why: those rooms face the Bellagio fountain, and you can watch the water show directly from your room.
During the trip,
If you're going to be taking the LV Monorail (which runs the length of the strip, more or less), and are looking for a good hotel... might I recommend MGM Grand or the LV Hilton as well? The reason... the monorail station is directly located in those hotels, and it won't be such a pain to get to the station. (Most hotels keep the monorail station right at the rear of the building so that patrons have to walk through the casino to get to it.)

Date: 2005-12-18 06:04 pm (UTC)I don't mind staying at just about any hotel, since it's not like we'll spend much time there. As long as it's clean and not scary, then hey.

Date: 2005-12-18 06:14 pm (UTC)View from my room there... and of the Bellagio fountain show from the room.
If you go to Hoover Dam, don't pay for the tour. It ain't worth it.
I'd find this book before you go -- you should be able to find coupons and stuff in it to make up for $12 it costs.
