Note: this post has nothing to do with the Canadian election. Please do not be alarmed.

I need a haircut. I'm trying to decide between my regular $12 short-but-cut-by-a-professional, and just buzzing it all off myself. I tend to get my hair cut and then wait 10-12 weeks before getting it cut again, by which time it's driving me batty. How often do you short-haired-and-liking-snappy-rather-than-scruffy-hair people get yours cut?

Perhaps I need a hobby.

LOL, I cut mine every three days ;-)

OK, perhaps I need a caveat there that at least one inch of hair as 'standard' is required. :)

LOL, you don't want me to bring over the razor?

Between high school and university I took a train trip halfway from Ottawa to BC and back, and got a low-maintenance buzz cut before going. My head looks super ugly in all pictures, so I am shying away from that sort of approach until my follicles make the decision for me.

Every other week. Of all my vanities, it's probably the most regular. And costly.

I'm waaaay too cheap for that, even at $12.

i usually get it cut every two months. by the end of that period though, it usually looks terrible.

Me too, I really need to cut that down. I asked the hairstylist that same question last time I went, she said every three weeks is the usual.

Yeah, much more my style. Except that "style" is not a word normally applied to my hair, face, clothing, walk, or attitude. Or anything else I missed. :)

I get my hair cut every four weeks, like clockwork.

My next haircut is a Truefitt & Hill in Chicago, which is a branch of the London barber that holds Prince Phillip's Royal Warrant.

The haircuts are first rate (they ought to be for $45US), but the straight razor shaves are better than sex with most people.

I enjoy straight razor shaves on my sideburns when they happen, but I'm (a) far too cheap for $45 (even CDN), and (b) far too sensitive about the neck to have that sort of proper shave, unfortunately.

I wish I'd get LJ reply e-mails more diligently...

The entire process is remarkably relaxing. I'm not sure how our bodies can process the information that someone we don't really know is holding a sharp blade to our throat and interpret it as calming, but it works.

And actually, the shave would be an ADDITIONAL $45US, which is why I've only done it once.

The barber I go to in Chicago (once a year), in the process of the haircut, uses scissors, clippers, a straight razor, thinning shears, and a teeny little Bic disposable razor. I don't get that last part, really.

Usually every 4 weeks. I have a good reminder too, it doesn't start hurting when baby suspect pulls on my hair until that point. If I feel pain, its time to get it cut!

That's a good strategy!

While I suppose this could be turned against me, I haven't paid for a haircut in about 12-13 years now. I generally keep a #1 buzz, every couple of weeks.

That would be much simpler, that's for sure.

Every 8 weeks, but for the last 1-2 weeks of the period every time I look in the mirror I think "I need a haircut". I'm told my hair grows very slowly, though.

This is a far cry from when I was in school, you'll note. See, I caught a glimpse of a picture of me with long hair and vowed never, ever again!

I used to get my hair cut every eight weeks, but it got so long and shaggy that even though I kept it combed neatly I still ended up with a visible transformation process that brought unwanted attention.

So, even though I was in my early 30s, I went from looking like a sixteen-year-old to looking like a sixteen-year-old whose mom ordered him to get a haircut.

is the only reason you wait for three months the cost????

that's ridiculous.

you spend how much money on trips and travel, and yet skimp at one of the basics of simple grooming?

anyway, when i -had- grown-out hair, it was a must to get it cut once per month. my hair grows at astronomical speeds. i'd spend between $12 and $30, depending on where i went, but usually the lower end, since my 'dos were so simple.

now it's free. ;-)

Actually Josh, the reason has nothing to do with the cost. And to be honest, I get a lot more enjoyment out of travel than I do from haircuts, so I don't consider it that ridiculous even if I did.

i was just using that as an example based on what you had been saying to others in replies. -regardless-, maybe you should have v. take classes (since he's so into that and always looking for something new) on how to cut hair, and that way he can be your in-house barber. not to mention the tipping possibilities. ;-)

Haha, that's true. Actually, he tends to just buzz his head now, with me sometimes cleaning up the edges. And last night I got annoyed and just buzzed my own head, and managed to do a halfway decent job, surprisingly. It'll be back to the barber in a month though, the time it took for me to feel happy with it was waaaay too long.

you shaved your head? do we get to see?

No no, I have an ugly head. #4 on top, #2 sides and back, roughly.

Our digital camera is broken I think, so we're unable to take pictures of anything. It's weird.

Wow. These comments make me feel woefully inattentive to my looks. I get my hair cut maybe every 3 months, probably more like 4.

I'm hideous!
