The Haircut Question
Dec. 3rd, 2005 10:13 amNote: this post has nothing to do with the Canadian election. Please do not be alarmed.
I need a haircut. I'm trying to decide between my regular $12 short-but-cut-by-a-professional, and just buzzing it all off myself. I tend to get my hair cut and then wait 10-12 weeks before getting it cut again, by which time it's driving me batty. How often do you short-haired-and-liking-snappy-rather-than-scruffy-hair people get yours cut?
Perhaps I need a hobby.

Date: 2005-12-03 12:52 pm (UTC)My next haircut is a Truefitt & Hill in Chicago, which is a branch of the London barber that holds Prince Phillip's Royal Warrant.
The haircuts are first rate (they ought to be for $45US), but the straight razor shaves are better than sex with most people.

Date: 2005-12-03 03:44 pm (UTC)This is a far cry from when I was in school, you'll note. See, I caught a glimpse of a picture of me with long hair and vowed never, ever again!

Date: 2005-12-04 06:40 am (UTC)The entire process is remarkably relaxing. I'm not sure how our bodies can process the information that someone we don't really know is holding a sharp blade to our throat and interpret it as calming, but it works.
And actually, the shave would be an ADDITIONAL $45US, which is why I've only done it once.
The barber I go to in Chicago (once a year), in the process of the haircut, uses scissors, clippers, a straight razor, thinning shears, and a teeny little Bic disposable razor. I don't get that last part, really.

Date: 2005-12-04 06:41 am (UTC)So, even though I was in my early 30s, I went from looking like a sixteen-year-old to looking like a sixteen-year-old whose mom ordered him to get a haircut.

Date: 2005-12-04 09:38 am (UTC)that's ridiculous.
you spend how much money on trips and travel, and yet skimp at one of the basics of simple grooming?
anyway, when i -had- grown-out hair, it was a must to get it cut once per month. my hair grows at astronomical speeds. i'd spend between $12 and $30, depending on where i went, but usually the lower end, since my 'dos were so simple.
now it's free. ;-)
