31.5 hours down, and Mel is being a sleepy little angel at my feet. Of course, since he knows he's being talked about. :)

Either he's not used to stormy weather yet, or he doesn't trust me much yet. My parents can take him down to the beach for walks, but he won't come with me. It's a bit of a struggle just to get him 100m from the house. Not a big deal, just interesting to me.

I took advantage of my parents' camera, and snapped some pictures for everyone to actually see what Mel looks like:

Mel on my lap, the camera's timer working but the couch not cooperating in its role as camera-support, so my head's cut off.

Mel in the back yard, tearing into (I think) old sod that was laid down in the past. He rips everything out of the ground, and is very fond of eating pieces of live plants too. Even in the house, my Mom has a hibiscus (sp?) that loses its flowers by rolling them up in a little cigar shape and then dropping them on the floor. Mel sees these as hors d'ouevres.

I swear he looks like a cartoon dog in this one. I just wish it was in focus.

So where is he now? In what is apparently his very favourite (and very risky) place to sleep:

Do you know why puupies are so adorable?

IT makes them that much harder to beat when they pee on your shoes. That said, awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! Puppy!

You want to be careful about what you (or your parents) let Mel eat. Many common house and garden plants have bits that may make puppies very very ill.

While I cannot say whether or not they've done the research, I know that they stop him from eating the plants. Also, they've had dogs longer than they've had me, so they are familiar with all sorts of dog troubles too.

The cuteness? TOTALLY a defence mechanism. I can't think of any species that doesn't take advantage of this same approach.
