Have you ever played eye tag with someone, really wanted to meet them, possibly wanted even (ahem) more from them, and not been able to? Possibly due to being convinced that you're the creepy old guy in the scenario? I hate that feeling.
You're right, it did feel a bit last class bash-ey in there tonight. I feel really out of place when I'm on campus too. I know that 26 isn't old, but when everyone else is 20, it sure is.
I totally hate playing eye tag, for exactly the same reason. I'm not sure if it's because I stare too long or stare too intently... but it's screwy as hell.
Naah, you're not creepy. You have a certain je ne sais quoi about you that's definitely not creepy. Odd maybe. If I wanted to be funny-mean, I'd say "sad," but that's totally not correct.
The National Post has a new free daily in several major cities called Dose. It's pretty tabloidy. In each issue's news section there's a subsection called "WTF." [shakes head]
26 is a "creepy old guy"? Come to Atlanta - we don't hand out C.O.G. certification until 30, at least.
At least you're not a D.C.O.G. (Delusional Creepy Old Guy) who wears bicycle pants and a t-shirt from a band he's never heard of, in an attempt to look ten years younger.
Shyness is nice but shyness can stop you from doing all the things in life you'd like to.
I'm older than you and I have never felt like the creepy older guy, out of place yes, but creepy no.
Just wipe the drool from your chin, give him a wink and say "Why don't you slide your sweet ass on over and have a seat on my lap, son." that's not creepy at all!
Jokes aside, as long as you are polite and receptive of signals of interest/non-interest you will not be seen as creepy. Older I can't help you with... I still think of myself as being young despite what these little ones barfing in the gutter think. At least I'm old enough to know how to hold my liquor.
