Any hickies this time? =)

Ahhh...dancing til 2 a.m. Dancing at all for that matter. Haven't done that in far too long.

Well, chop chop! Get your groove thang on! Or something like that. I'm sure that's what the cool kids are saying these days.

We've been going out and dancing far more often since the new bar opened. It's far more enjoyable, and 0% smokey (separate enclosed smoking room) ! Makes for long days at work when I'm tired, but I'm having a lot more fun in the evenings. :)

A separate smoking room? LOVE THAT. Always on the cutting edge in Halifax.

Perhaps this weekend we'll get out to shake it a bit.

I want pictures!

Halifax has passed a sorta-good anti-smoking bylaw. It says that if you're licensed as a restaurant, you can't have smoking. If you're a bar, you can't have smoking either, unless: you're a cigar bar or want to be a cigar bar or are pretending to be a cigar bar, or you have a separate enclosed smoking room. Most bars have a separate area with walls but no door, and they're not getting busted, which annoys the hell out of me (cause I'm a totally bitchy anti-smoking fascist).

Vortex I love because they actually follow the law, and when I get home I don't reek of smoke. It's very enjoyable.

Yeah, I'm not so sure you do. Except if you want a good laugh of course.

I have nothing against smokers personally, but I sure do hate the reeking-of-smoke effect that always happens when we go out. Unfortunately I don't see that type of law passing in good ole Memphis any time soon.

Intellectually I don't have anything against smokers, just the smoking. But I have a bit of an emotional overdose on it, and have a hard time separating the two. It makes me nearly sick to my stomach (actual physical pain) to see someone I care about smoke. If I know them as a smoker first, it's not a big deal. But to find out someone that is really important to me is smoking really bothers me. Too much, really.

My dad smoked from age 15 to 55, and finally quit successfully then. He started running marathons, actually. But through the 15 years he was trying to quit, I ended up associating everything I hated about him with the cigarettes instead of him. Everytime I saw him smoke after a longish period of quitting, I would nearly cry. Seriously, too emotionally involved. It's dangerous.

Full indoor smoking bans are a complete no-brainer to me, but I know alot of jurisdictions have a ways to go before they get there. Even Halifax surprised me, this city isn't all Lotus Flowers and Yoga like some places that try it. :) Bans are getting to be very popular in Canada now.

Nothing wrong with caring about people and not wanting to see them partake in an addiction that is destructive. But of course no sense in making yourself crazy over something that only they have the ability to change. Almost my entire family smokes or smoked at one point, but somehow I escaped it. My sister has quit, my two aunts have quit, my dad has quit off and on, thought I believe he's not smoking now, but my mom still puffs away. I hate that she does it, and she knows it, but I don't bug her. She'll quit when she's ready I suppose.

Bans are becoming popular in the U.S. as well, but over things like gay marriage.

Well, there's a vocal minority here who are pretty interested in those kinds of bans too. Luckily, they don't have too much sway -- just so long as our federal election (next month likely) doesn't become the gay marriage election. It might, but hopefully not.

Which reminds me--can Mike smoke at your wedding?

Highly unlikely.

...by which I mean no. Ottawa has an actual smoking bylaw, unlike the pathetic wishy-wash HRM came up with.

Just thought from your silence maybe my smile wasn't obvious. Explaining jokes / amusement isn't fun, but it's better than misunderstanding. Wars have started over less. :)

Damn. Now I wish I hadn't planted those land mines by your apartment door.

Hmmm. That may explain those odd bruises on my legs. Were these by any chance very small land mines?
