Over 70% of Canadians are now considered equal under marriage law. But same-sex couples are still "less equal" in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland & Labrador, along with the Yukon, Nunavut, and Northwest Territories.

I wonder how long it will take for equal rights to actually happen? Certainly Paul Martin and Stephen Harper aren't likely to be very helpful in this regard...

I'm not sure how I feel about free vote versus party-line vote. I don't like the idea of human rights being subjected to a popularity contest -- just because the majority likes something, does that make it okay? Just? Slavery and women voting and interracial marriage would still be distant if majority rule worked for human rights.

At the same time, I'm a fan of the idea of MP-level decisions, rather than the PMO / OLO.

*shrug*

What? We gave women the right to vote in this country? Was that before or after they were legally declared persons under the law?

Don't look at me, I didn't do it! Barefoot and pregnant, that's my motto.
