WHEREAS the Mayor of a city is ultimately responsible for the provision of services to the city paid for by taxpayer dollars;

AND WHEREAS the timely removal of snow for the proper functioning of streets, transit, and commercial enterprise is one of said city services;

AND WHEREAS removal of snow from Halifax after last Thursday's 95 cm (38 inch) snowfall has been slow, inconsistent, and disruptive

BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Mayor of Halifax should be replaced.

Discuss.

(seriously, there's an opinion column in the Herald today suggesting this, though in a less-flowery way.)

All excellent ideas! Plus I would promise:

- bike paths that actually go somewhere -- I want people to be able to bike from one side of the city to the other without getting off their bike and walking it up and down a freakin' hill

- a bus system more focused on commuters, with priority access to anywhere they need to go, to make busing a far more attractive option for commuters from Bedford and Sackville and Clayton Park.

- eventually, free buses on the peninsula and in downtown Dartmouth. Create a free-ride zone, like in Seattle, since the buses are going through those areas anyway, and it will make the downtown less congested.

- parking ban in Grand Parade: city councillors have to park in Scotia Square just like the peasants do, or take a bus! Plus the Church doesn't get a free ride either.

- I will actually enforce the smoking ban, cause I'm a total whiny bitch about that. :)

- replace Cogswell interchange with something pretty that draws people into the Gottingen area, plus help new businesses open (and advertise) in the area to draw in customers and liven up the neighbourhood

- tear down old infirmary on Queen Street, then sell land to a non-profit housing co-op for one dollar. Loan then a bunch of seed money to build low-rise affordable housing.

This is fun. If we stay in town, maybe I should run! I'd probably stick to city council first -- Nat and I can take over the city!
