Oh god. My adorable husband just bought me a Wii for my birthday.

So much for being productive until 2009.

Suggestions on must have features/tips/games?

MARIO KART!

Yeah, that's high on my list. It came with Wii Sports, and we bought Wii Play, DDR2, and Rayman 2. Three of those have tons of minigames, which I think is key to entertaining me. :) I love MarioKart though, so I imagine that will be next.

Rayman 1 is better than Rayman 2 - by a lot!

Mario Kart Wii is awesome, and it's always good to have a nice role playing game - I chose Medal of Honor.

The best part of the Wii though is the ability to download old NES/SNES/Sega Genesis/N64/Gamecube/and more games into the virtual console!!

Do you have any gaming systems at your place? If yes, how do they look on your monster screen (ie: are the people bigger than real life?)

Having a new toy like this is totally revving up my new technology genes. I want a new stereo (I have a home theatre from 2000), a new TV (ditto - plain old CRT!!!), and some sort of wiring solution too. *sigh*

Yeah tell me about it. I still have my 32" CRT from when I graduated from UNB, 1.5 degrees later... My DVD player is old too, it cost $300 back then, scary. The only thing that is still pretty current and good is my surround system which I upgraded after I moved into the house (now almost 5 years ago but good speakers don't really get obsolete fast).

The new Panasonic plasmas that were just released this month are so sweet, 50% less power consumption, much better picture quality than last year so even matching or better than the insanely expensive Pioneer Kuro line. I am supposed to be getting a new TV as a graduation present so can't wait!

Oh fun! Be sure to keep us informed what you go with, that'll help if I magically find some money somewhere. :)

I just got the idea this morning while drinking my coffee. Sorry, amigo. Surely The Amazing Race board game provided comparable excitement (at least you were on the winning team).

Oh cool, I didn't know there was such a board game. How does it work, and is it easy to get lost? ;-) When is the next TAR anyways?

It's a DVD/board game -- you move real pieces around a board, but the board is just circular, not a map or anything. The DVD randomizes (poorly) which country to visit next, and randomizes (poorly) what happens to you in each location. It's fun, but not as fun as the real show...

...which premieres September 28th! Squeeeee!

TAR=September. It's actually a DVD game that's very simple. You can win by doing almost nothing, as shown by Pete and myself.

If you haven't already got any, get some GameCube controllers - it's backwards compatible!

No gamecube games - I was upgrading from an N64 purchased in a pawn shop in 2001... this is the first time I've ever owned a console that was still current!! :)

I'm quite partial to the Lego Indiana Jones, personally. It's not Wii-exclusive, doesn't really make use of the Wiimote (basically you just use the Wiimote & nunchuck as an ordinary controller), but it's goofy and fun.

These games might not be your piece of cake, but I enjoyed Resident Evil 4 and Tiger Woods '07 (seriously!). Super Mario Galaxy is pretty cool too (and given how much you played Super Mario 64, I'd say you'll like it). Super Paper Mario is a fun little diversion too -- not as RPG-like as the previous Paper Mario titles.

Lego Star Wars is fun. A little repetitive as you go on, but it's saved by the fact that it sports drop-in/drop-out co-op play.

I cannot stress enough the value of video game rentals when games are usually $40 and up.

And keep an eye out for sales on Wii Points cards -- Toys R Us occasionally sells 2000 point cards for $14.99, which is basically getting $20 for $15.

I'm a big fan of Okami. The painting is so cool.
