I am thinking easier-to-read and easier-to-type with my vote.

that's not a picture of an 8130...

it looks like an 8703, so i say go with the pearl.

i have a pearl, and love it. not bulky, and the two-chars-per-key is very easy to get used to.

can you get a curve instead? that way, you have the full qwerty, the modernity of the pearl, and GPS. :)

Agreed, 8703. My bad -- too many numbers at once!

No Curve available from Bell, I don't think. Or maybe there is -- I didn't see it, and BlackBerrys are all new to me.

Aside: I hate typing BlackBerrys instead of BlackBerries.

Are you looking for fashion or function?

You people! You're not voting, you're just commenting! :-)

Function, mostly. It's a work phone, but I kinda like the fashionable one.

I'd probably get the 8830 then (although the one you pictures is an 8703)

Oh yeah, that would be nice too. Not sure how much budget I have.

There is a curve/pearl split in my office, and I have to say go with the pearl. jd is right -- it's a nice small size and the typing is very easy to get used to. The curve (which doesn't even appear to be an option for you, unless its availability thru Bell is imminent) is still a bit bulky. I'm not one of those "hi-I-wear-my-blackberry-on-my-belt" kind of guys, so the small size is a very big issue for me.

I can't imagine that the 8703 is really an option, is it?

Come on. You're the manager. Make it up as you go along, that's what all the good ones do!

Naah, the "manager" in my title is just an optical illusion.

Oh, also: try looking at our stock on TSX and then tell me I can make up things that involve money. Ha!

When I asked that was the option the quoted for me. Maybe we just are mostly an 8703 shop? I dunno. My boss has an 8830, or maybe a Pearl... I get confused easily.

I guess if Bell doesn't offer the curve (bizarre), then there needs to be an option for those who prefer the full qwerty keyboard.

But it is a previous generation of the device.

If you were single I'd let you be my illusionary manager and make the "decisions" >:-)

they don't have the curve. but they DO have the 8830, which is just as nice. however, it doesn't have a camera (if you use such things).

so i vote for the 8130 pearl, since it's CDMA, it has GPS capability anyway. (unlike my GSM pearl, with fido/rogers).

but can you stop into a telus or bell store to try them both out, to see how they feel to you? (since they're both CDMA vendors, they should pretty much have the same phones)

I'm close to a guy high up in Telus, and his husband is Director of IT for a big law firm -- they have like seven blackberrys in their home. It's a little (LOT) nuts.

I fiddled with a ... umm... one of the non-qwerty ones... last night. It was weird, but I imagine I could get used to it. I really need to spend some time typing to see which I would like best. My fingers may be too fat. To order the special dialing wand, mash the keypad with your hands... now.

Hmmm. Judging from the features comparison on RIM's site, I didn't see a big gap in features -- are there many differences beyond the shape?

That may be true. But is Sass Jordan a little bit of gay? Does the opposite apply?

I was actually wondering the same thing after I hit post comment.

I wonder what I have for lunch today. I have cookies I baked yesterday for after lunch.

If you are going to be doing a lot of e-mail/Internet stuff than the QWERTY keyboard and large screen will probably be more useful.

If you want something easier to carry around that takes up less space than the Pearl is probably better suited for that.

As a work thing I would probably get the 8130, if I was getting it for personal use I would get the Pearl.

I have the pearl which I like, but it is good if you mainly use it for phone (like I do). But, if you need one for more web-based and e-mail, I would go with one with a larger screen (8130)
