I dislike feeling like I'm being cynical, but currently I'm sitting in this spot:
Hillary = ideas
Obama = ideals
McCain = inevitable

Check out this video. As Paul Wells phrased it, If [Hillary] stops him, some very powerful hope will be dashed.  If she doesn't, I don't suppose anyone can.

That sort of summarizes one thing that I've felt in my bones since last year: completely separate from Hillary's experience, fitness to lead, ideas, etc, I just don't see her winning. Which saddens me. I think she's most likely to win the Democratic nomination, but then everyone will say "isn't it great that in America we finally nominated a serious female candidate?" and then they'll go vote for the straight white Christian male. I can see that happening with Obama too, but his focus on something more esoteric seems to shake things up a bit. It's harder to fight ideals and hope and faith etc, compared with concrete proposals that can be discussed, lied about, etc.

Hillary Clinton's got the ideas, and the experience, and I think she'd probably make the best president out of the three. I'm not sure, but I'm leaning that way.  But Barack Obama is inspiring, and jesus the world needs that. I wasn't around for JFK-mania, so does that mean I'm being sucked in? He's very inspiring, but he is really green and therefore unpredictable in the White House.

Here's what will happen on Tuesday and then what will happen in November: (IMHO)  Can Obama do it? I don't know.

At least there's one good thing about McCain: he's spent a long time hating (and being hated by) the insane right wing that's run the Republicans for the past 16 years. Ann Coulter says she'd campaign for the Democrats rather than for him (1. As if. 2. No thank you.), and when the maniacs hate you you must be a little more centrist. Not much, but still. I hate that he wouldn't change much militarily with how the US is behaving worldwide, but if the rest of the conversation can be changed that may be the silver lining.

Oh well. Can't affect it, can only stay awake late on Tuesday to absorb it all.

What if there's a Clinton-Obama or Obama-Clinton ticket?

The cynic in me says that the union of negatives will outweigh the union of positives. Also, won't happen -- I can't imagine the bad blood just disappearing. But I would *love* to be proved wrong on both points!

Apparently Bill and Al didn't get along well at all. So it's possible.

Well I could handle a white house where the P and VP get along less well then. :)

I think we all good. I mean, for the last eight years, we've had Dick and has dad's son running the nation (yes, in that order). Getting some hate-on in the Honky House might be good!

I wouldn't mind the McCain of 2000 as much. The McCain of 2008 I have more difficulty with. I'm actually hoping he's been brazenly lying to the base (on anything other than the war, that I disagree with but he is definitely sincere) and will self-moderate past the primary.

Romney... I don't think the US needs an animatronic that escaped from Disney World and was reprogrammed with war propaganda tapes.

Clinton vs. Obama... is a tough call if you are a Democrat who "wants to win". There are a lot of people who just, irrationally, hate Hillary Clinton. So she is the one person they could have picked who starts off with a whole bunch of votes AGAINST her. Right or wrong, fair or not, you are trying to win an election.

As for Obama, the possibility of generational change is exciting but I think people also have to consider the possibility that he's a Ken doll who gives a great speech and doesn't have enough behind it to get the job done and will be exposed as lacking substance heading up to the election. Before anyone gets upset, I said POSSIBILITY... for all I know he could have incredible policy depth he is waiting to unleash upon us all. Also he does have an occasional wooden quality that reminds me (worrisomely) of John Kerry and Al Gore in 2004 and 2000.

So if you are cheering for the Democrats (and I think at this point that is a pretty rational thing to do) it's a hard call which of these two can get it done. If only the Republicans could have gone with Giuliani this would be much easier...

Agreed on just about all points. At least it's not something I can change, so I can watch with fascination and excitement/fear/regret/shock/etc.
