US President George W Bush will allow an independent inquiry into US intelligence failures in the leadup to war in Iraq. Isn't that convenient? Now if the commission says that the intelligence was wrong, Bush can say "oops!" And if the intelligence was correct (which of course it wasn't), Bush can say "told you so!" Win-win. As long as he stacks the deck so they don't investigate anything he doesn't want them to, just like he has with September 11th.

Prediction: Osama bin Laden will be "captured" 2-4 weeks before the US presidential election, in mid-October some time. Also awfully convenient.

I agree with your prediction as well.

Categorically disagree. Osama Bin Laden is dead, or in China. Seriously. The United States has forgotten Osama Bin Laden as a symbol of terrorism in our zeal to vilify Saddam Hussein, and thus the exhumation of such a man would serve to provide more harm than good - especially if he were allowed to speak. China is the only world power weighty enough to give him asylum, because he was knee-deep in U.S. dirty deeds in Afghanistan in the 80s. I'm predicting a terrorist attack of some sort, directly produced or indirectly "allowed" to happen by pro-Bush intelligence community members.

Excellent analysis. I agree with you, though I suspect bin Laden is alive. You're correct, any further usefulness of OBL was removed with the full court press on Iraq. Though you'll note that Hussein has also not had a chance to speak -- I predict no chances will emerge until at least 2006.

I wonder if a dead bin Laden appearing during the election might still have its uses. I also wonder if Karl Rove is wondering the same thing as me at the exact same time. Creepy.
