The transition is a good idea.

Also: Bathrooms are vastly underrated. Unlike kitchens, there's really a limit on how extravagant you can go before you stop making your money back (unless you're building an ultra-luxury place) but nothing turns people off like seeing an ugly, dated bathroom. It's not even a conscious thing most of the time (unless the bathroom is really ugly and dated) but people really do notice bathrooms.

Kitchens are a no-brainer, of course. :-)

Another option with the missing tile might be to find something complementary and see if you can replace a couple other tiles with it as well. That way you can add a little interest to the room without making it obvious that you've tacked a random tile in to cover a hole. :-) But I'm no designer so you should probably not listen to me.
