How many different friends groups do you have? How do you most commonly use them? I'm just wondering if I've used them in the common way, or in an uncommon way.
My answers: I have four groups, basically consisting of people near and far, and close and not (what you might call "strangers").

Date: 2004-01-26 10:25 pm (UTC)I use my various groups to ask questions that I would only ask of those I'm close to, or only ask of those I'm unfamiliar with. I haven't used it much, but there are some things I might say that I don't want my mom reading. :)

Date: 2004-01-26 10:56 pm (UTC)I replied once to someone in secret, but that was only because I thought that others might think it was "too much info", and not because I didn't want people to know.

Date: 2004-01-26 10:59 pm (UTC)Three friends groups for subjects that people I've felt close enough (or common interests) to read. However, they are poorly named ("Close friends", "More Personal than LJ-Friends", and "Cancer and Death") and got confusing to manage, so I've added everyone to both lists and post everything as "Friends Only". I went through a phase last year where I wanted to become more private with my LJ habits.
There's a "Kirk Only" group. I created that one for other LJ accounts that I've had in the past. It acted like a private group for those accounts.
There's a group for me and another person.
Then there's the list labeled "Erotic". It's not that active and has a small subset of those on my friends list.
"Public" and "Friends only" are the groups I use most often. "Private" and "Erotic" are both rarely used. I should change that.

Date: 2004-01-27 12:35 pm (UTC)I have some close friends that are gay and one in perticular I can say just about anything and he doesn't get upset, so that's cool :)
Gay people I dislike are not a category, they are nothing to me :) Ignorance is bliss after all

Date: 2004-01-27 01:10 pm (UTC)Having a "say anything" friend is cool. Even though I do get worked up about stuff, I hope that my friends know that they can say pretty much anything to me, and the worst thing that might happen is I might try to talk them out of that position. Having people around to depend on is important.
Obligatory Simpsons reference:
"Ignorance is...."
"Bliss?"
"Oh, you ruined it."
