We need to get some paid LJ subscriber to syndicate Ben's blogspacemyfacehotornot whatever that other site is. Then it will be way more convenient. :)

also, it annoys me that i can't see people's pictures unless i sign up for an account.

and honestly, i'm sure that's the top underlying reason that people do in the first place.

no problem. i like to make people sweat.
or something.

they talk about the "myspace angles"... e.g.: people taking every possible picture of themself EXCEPT for from the front. seemingly, it's mostly the ugly girls who do so, as a way of hiding their trollness.

I clicked the myspace link foolishly, and it said weird things like Ben was in my extended network. Even though I know for certain that the computer I'm at has *never* been to that website. Very odd.

do you know how much i despise arial?
can i just count the ways??

(though, ANYTHING is better than comic sans)

anyway, i'm not a big fan of verdana, either. i love love Trebuchet, and the Lucida and Gill Sans families.

for actual print, though, you can't beat Bookman and Baskerville families.

From: [identity profile] jdhorner.livejournal.com
:: noted ::

i read it.

but i've ALWAYS hated helvetic AND arial.

they just look BAD.

though, now i can't decide if i want to discuss web fonts or print fonts.

There's this guy who volunteers with Wayves (that glbt paper I'm always going on about) who, from a distance of 20 feet, can identify the typeface, the variant of the typeface, the weight, and the freakin' leading. It's spooky.

Date: 2006-02-28 01:15 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] jdhorner.livejournal.com
i could compete up to identifying the font, variant, (sometimes even the generic versions of the actual fonts) and weight. but leading? not so much.

i kind of miss my reprographics career.

Verdana 10 is soooo Office 2003. All of the cool kids are using Calibri now.

Date: 2006-02-28 12:53 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] c9.livejournal.com
Tell me what benefits I get from it, and I'll get excited. Verdana has specific measureable improvements over Arial. Is Calibri a return to the common "more fonts equals better product" retail software world or the early 90s?

Date: 2006-02-28 12:56 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cap-hill-latte.livejournal.com
Far more readable than Verdana. Read all about it, and the other new ones coming down the line here (http://poynter.org/column.asp?id=47&aid=78683).

(I like Corbel better for plain text, but it looks a bit odd when Bolded.

From: [identity profile] c9.livejournal.com
Ah yes, I saw that previously. I like a good font, but to be honest I just don't get excited about them. Oh well.

Yikes, I'm way behind the times, I have never used Verdana. I usually just go with the default which is still Times New Roman 12 I think.

So what will the default font be in Office 12?

We have an official corporate font that's evolved twice in the three years I've been with the company.

Each new version is closer and closer to Comic Sans. Which may say something about my company.

I love Sans (just "Sans") in Linux when it's kerned properly. Unfortunately that appears to be bloody hard to do, 'cos SuSE is the only distro that's got it right so far (one of the other reasons I'm trying to stick with it).

I'll generate a screenshot tonight. It's so nice.
