[livejournal.com profile] leapfish and I have many Aeroplan points, and the Aeroplan website is not helping. Even the call centre is not helping. Hawai'i is basically sold out, though we could play the call-and-check-every-day lottery. Sao Paulo is sold out in one direction (coming home). Puerto Vallarta is sold out. Greece is sold out and too many timezones (for me). So screw that noise, it's your turn:

Using the tools available at www.aeroplan.com and www.google.ca, and 75,000 points per person, please find us a cool place to go on vacation in Business Class.

We're going in February, so if the place you're suggesting gets snow, then it's vetoed.

Go!

if you drop the Business Class proviso then Aus/NZ is doable. A little pain for a lot of pleasure! :-P

Downside: too many timezones for too little available vacation time! We can't all be Phil, after all. What a world that would be. :)

But it is very tempting.

My personal favorite is Puerto Rico... and it is 60k per person according to your rewards chart.

Anywhere in Caribbean is beautiful, and it's a good time to go because there are no hurricanes. San Juan has a lot of history, and there is also a gay area, if memory serves. The whole island of PR is beautiful, tho. I usually stay in Humacao, in the southeast of the island.

If you stick to Central/South America the time zone thing will be less of a problem. I know a number of people who have gone to Peru and said good things (though, they've all noted semi-serious Peru-induced stomach issues). I really liked the area south of Cancun. Lots o' history and ruins, balanced with the fact that you're in the middle of nowhere so you have an excuse to just lie in the sun and sip drinks out of coconuts if you really want to. If you do head east I'd suggest Spain and/or Portugal. I haven't been to either myself, but again, good things have been said.

P.S. Something is wonky with your aeroplan link.

I'd recommend Bermuda, or Miami, and I'll second Puerto Rico.

Bermuda is great, but make sure you check out the prices of hotels as when we were there they were SUPER expensive. Luckily we were staying with friends. But at the time, one night in a hotel cost more than one of our plane tickets to get there and back. ;-(

I had considered that - the "Season" (with a capital "S") is from Christmas to Easter...

You've discovered that miles are increasingly impossible to use these days. :)

That said, you can use your miles on United and US Airways as well - don't forget that! Hawai'i in the winter is impossible - you may as well give up unless you book 11 months in advance. Using miles to anywhere warm at that time per year is just really really hard.

If you have date flexibility it will help if you schedule around school holidays.

Yeah, aeroplan.com shows all Star Alliance options, no worries there. You're right though, warmth is hard to find!

I'm starting to think Aeroplan is a big scam. There is never anything available, or it's blacked out, or they want twice as many miles as it "supposedly" requires to go to your desired destination.

In theory, I have enough aeroplan miles to go anywhere I want. In reality, I'd be lucky to get to Fredericton on 150,000 points... but I won't even try because I'm sure it's sold out.

Hawaii basically requires a year's notice. What helps better for availability, though, is status.... :)
