Halsted Street is the land-of-gay-men. I'm not sure how one researches that, but I've been told it's very much fun.

There's also a lot of shopping - Michigan Avenue is basically a mile-long mall, Oak Street (cross Michigan at the north end) is all the ridiculously high-end shopping, and then there's Marshall Field's, a department store that takes up a full city block and has ten floors of retail.

All That Jazz!

Seriously. I've been in Chicago once and the architecture is wonderful. If you like buildings, I'd say it's one of the most interesting places to see different styles.

You also should take those boats in the canal.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the buildings. Growing up in Ottawa, there were all sorts of debates about what to do with an old abandoned building in downtown beside the Chateau Laurier, because it was the only remaining example of the Chicago style of architecture in the city. Whatever. They tore it down, now it's condos. :)

oh jeez, I just left Chicago! I would have totally hung out with you if I were still there!

What to do in Chicago...hmmmm...Well, on Wednesday nights the CSO plays a concert series in Millenium Park. It is wonderfully romantic (and that doesn't mean you can't go alone!). Bring some cheese and wine and listen to the beautiful music. Also there are all the gay bars in Boystown (which is RIGHT where I used to live). Halstead street between Belmont and Addison on the north side of the city. I can give you more specifics on which ones are good for what type of mood you are in if you'd like.

There's also the Art Institute on Michigan Ave that I loved to go to while I was there. Where are you staying? When are you going to be there?

And what the hell do you do, btw?

I'll be there Sunday night to Wednesday afternoon, so bars and CSO I guess are out. To be honest, I usually end up going to Subway for supper and then hiding in the hotel when I travel, unless I know people in the city. :)

Actually that reminds me, some friends of the family are there, maybe I can say hello. Not sure exactly where they are though.

I heartily recommend the DK travel guides. The best thing about them is the little full-colour illustrations that show you actual streetscapes on the maps.

Oh, and if you like pizza, you have to go to Pizzeria Uno or Gino's East, just to say you have. Warning, though - Chicago-style deep-dish pizza takes forty-five minutes to bake.
