Date: 2005-08-04 04:56 am (UTC)There's also a lot of shopping - Michigan Avenue is basically a mile-long mall, Oak Street (cross Michigan at the north end) is all the ridiculously high-end shopping, and then there's Marshall Field's, a department store that takes up a full city block and has ten floors of retail.

Date: 2005-08-04 05:38 am (UTC)-bet your bottom dollar you'll lose your blues in Chicago
-the town that Billy Sunday could not shut down
-on State Street, that great street ... they do things they don't do on Broadway
Frank Sinatra, "My Kind of Town"
-chicago is the wrigley building
-chicago is the union stockyard
-chicago is one town that won’t let you down
"All That Jazz", Chicago
-I know a whoopee spot where the gin is cold but the piano's hot
-It's just a noisy hall where there's a nightly brawl and all that jazz
"Nowadays", Chicago
-there's men everywhere
-jazz everywhere
-booze everywhere
-life everywhere
-joy everywhere, nowadays
-You can even marry Harry but mess around with Ike.
"Class", Chicago
-there ain't no gentelmen to open up the doors,
-there ain't no ladies now there's only pigs and whores
-and even kids'll knock you down so's they can pass
-oh, There ain't no gentelmen that's fit for any use,
-and any girl will touch your privates for a douse
-and even kids'll kick your shins and give ya sass
-nobody's got no class!!!
Also ... you're the meaning in my life, you're the inspiration.
Hope that helps. :)

Date: 2005-08-04 06:21 am (UTC)Seriously. I've been in Chicago once and the architecture is wonderful. If you like buildings, I'd say it's one of the most interesting places to see different styles.
You also should take those boats in the canal.

Date: 2005-08-04 07:12 am (UTC)What to do in Chicago...hmmmm...Well, on Wednesday nights the CSO plays a concert series in Millenium Park. It is wonderfully romantic (and that doesn't mean you can't go alone!). Bring some cheese and wine and listen to the beautiful music. Also there are all the gay bars in Boystown (which is RIGHT where I used to live). Halstead street between Belmont and Addison on the north side of the city. I can give you more specifics on which ones are good for what type of mood you are in if you'd like.
There's also the Art Institute on Michigan Ave that I loved to go to while I was there. Where are you staying? When are you going to be there?
And what the hell do you do, btw?

Date: 2005-08-08 09:40 pm (UTC)Oh, and if you like pizza, you have to go to Pizzeria Uno or Gino's East, just to say you have. Warning, though - Chicago-style deep-dish pizza takes forty-five minutes to bake.
