Well, http://www.Istop.com is having more legal difficulties with Bell. They're an Ottawa-based DSL reseller, and Bell has cut them off, second time in a year, and they've basically sold their customer base to cybersurf, whoever that is.

They provided me with free hosting since i used to buy a bunch of hardware from them. Now I need a new home. I don't need an ISP, but any suggestions for a new hosting provider? Cheapest is best, as the kitchen renovation has eaten all my available funds until at least 2006. :)

Specific needs: somewhere to put my shit. no domain (yet), no email addresses. CGI would be nice.

You're welcome to use space on metacon if you like. It's fairly fault tolerant now (RAID-1 mirroring, plenty of space, nightly network backups). The price is right :-)

Ahh, I thought it was still down. How much space can I have? (j/k, I only need 25 MB at the moment...)

That sounds cool. I shall check with you down the road as to what hardware I can donate to the cause. Do I still have an account?

Should do. The outage last week was only about 4 hours long -- I restored the backup of the server to my desktop as a temporary measure for the weekend then moved everything to a machine I borrowed from work on Monday.

Donations of hardware or lines on discounted stuff are always appreciated :-)

I did find a store with crazy-ass prices right here in town (www.thrift-king.com), but the selection is pretty crap. I'm hoping he can at least order stuff in.

www.ncix.com (Vancouver) and www.robotnik.com (Halifax) have the best prices pretty consistently. The best is the weekly specials email from NCIX, it always has something insane.

Yeah, I know -- it's been the cause of too many insane purchases, too :-)

But I like the idea of a place in town with ridiculous prices -- it will make the purchase of bulky things (like the new Antec Sonata II case much more cost-effective. Drool!

if you want Windows hosting, let me know and I can hook you up through a company I know... They're free, and well, you can get ASP.NET 2.0 or databases or all sorts of other things... And the connection they have to the internet is a good as Microsofts ;) hint hint.

Hehe, that has to be some serious bandwidth available then... But they are also probably a big target for hacking/DDoS and those kinds of attacks are they not so you would want your code to be *very* tight...

Meh -- these days I hardly have any time for fun stuff, so they'd just be attacking raw JPGs. :)

(I really wish I knew more about secure ASP and ASP.NET, actually. The code I write, on the rare occasions I get time, is probably basically swiss cheese.)
