The Toronto Star, which is Canada's biggest paper by circulation, is also Canada's left-most major newspaper, in terms of political leanings and social policy. This makes it one of a rare breed in North America these days.

In much of the US, the Star would have a very hard time existing, I think. :-)

Anyway, today I found out where the Star gets its viewpoint and approach from: The Atkinson Principles.

A crowd of Hill types gathered on the steps to watch.

A young NDP staffer came up, pushing her bicycle. She was wearing a War Is Terror button.

"Oh, great," she said sarcastically. "I used to think he was a bigot, but now that I've seen him throw a football, I love him."
