I don't know if I'd call Rob and Amber evil; they certainly weren't nice, that's for sure. It's nice to see that they didn't win, and that nice people *do* finish first once in a while.
I was also glad to see that Ron and Kelly figured out they shouldn't be together. People should only bicker like that after they've been married for years... if you bicker like that with your boy/girl friend, your relationship is doomed!
Evil is a strong word...I think off camera Rob is either 10 times worse than on the show, or maybe that was all an act. He made a few comments during the show that I found offensive and that earned him the aforementioned "evil" label. "Not nice" works too.
I actually found Rob annoying more than anything. HIs luck and arrogance anger me. There were others ("the smell of a third-world country," "they just keep breeding," etc) who were actually into the offensive zone for sure.
That would have really sucked if they lost the race just outside of the finish line because they couldn't pay off their cabbie.
I was shocked that they let them on the plane after they had already retracted the walkway. I think the producers of the show must have had something to do with that since AA is one of the sponsors. No way in hell they would ever do that for regular people. If Rob and Amber had of been the only ones on that plane they would have won without any problems and the finale would have just sucked.
It's possible, but Occam's Razor suggests that the agent on duty, seeing the cameras and the stress, and knowing that it was actually possible under exceptional circumstances, and knowing that Jamaica's security situation is a little more lax than say Reagan National or MacDonald-Cartier, simply decided to make the call even though she didn't have to.
I think Mike's experience in Jamaica counters the suggestion that "Jamaica's security situation is a little more lax than say Reagan National or MacDonald-Cartier". They won't even let you approach the airport without a boarding pass, apparently!
I did not watch the show, nor have I ever been to Jamaica.
BUT: just because somewhere is covered under a law doesn't mean that the law will be uniformly applied. Airport security in Fredericton is significantly different than airport security at Pearson, for example. Puerto Rico is more of a Fredericton than a Toronto, on that scale.
