Network Security MADNESS
Nov. 25th, 2004 12:36 pmOy vey. I'm back at the insurance company named after the city I'm in. I can't surf the web unless it's to https:// sites. So out of curiousity I tried putting https:// in front of my favourite URLs. Doesn't work, most of the time. But I can read the front page of the Globe and Mail, as long as I don't mind the annoying authentication prompts every few seconds. Then I tried our wedding pics, and they worked just fine! I remember than lj members can embed their page into another website, so I thought "if only I had that all set up..." Out of sheer silliness, I tried something that really would have no chance of working: I telnetted out to a server I have access to (where our pics from the wedding are). And it worked. It's only telnet, but I'm typing this using Lynx, the text-based web browser. Surreal.
While it's exciting and weird, I'd still just rather regular open access.
I'm so selfish.
