The Greatest Canadian, tonight starring Lester B Pearson, advocated by Paul Gross. Goofy, but interesting.

so goofy that I was convinced to vote for Pearson today. Apparently, you can vote after each episode, so hey.

He's responsible for Canada's flag, too.

Sidenote: I hate it when I see incorrect Canadian flags, i.e. not precisely twice as wide as they are tall. Makes me want to print out an instruction sheet and hand it out. I'm a bit of a dork.

Despite Paul Gross being allowed to open his mouth and talk (I'd still be convinced to vote if he was mute on camera for 30 minutes), I too was also convinced to vote for Mike Pearson. I thought about Trudeau, but when I realized that his review of the criminal code was actually by request of Pearson, I couldn't.

You're not a dork, just intensely obsessive.

I am still at a toss-up between Pearson and Tommy Douglas. I could be convinced for Trudeau. And part of me wants Terry Fox to win.

I really would like Trudeau to win, because he's one of those rarest of Canadians: a Canadian who retained his Canadiancy and became world famous. (There are plenty of Canadians who everyone thinks is American, but they don't count).

On the other hand, Pearson did give the symbol of our country, which is far more widely known than Trudeau's name or face.

It's definitely a toss-up.

I must disagree with you.. Fame does not mean great.. Trudeau though an intriging politican was not great with maybe the exception of the Contitution and Charter of Rights and Freedoms all things that were bound to happen.

Pearson was GREAT as he gave us a place in the world via foreign affairs, mainly having the balls to step into the Suez Crisis.

HOWEVER! Tommy Douglas is the Greatest, not becasue I'm a true believer in his ideas and a card carrying member of his party, but because and George said it perfectly when he stated his case for Tommy, that Tommy Douglas is CANADA everything the world thinks of when they think of Canada is the result of Tommy Douglas, everything that we as Canadians identify as or are proud of and struggle for to ensure that it continues is a result of Tommy Douglas. Canada would not be Canada today if it were not for Tommy Douglas and I think that the majority of Canadians believe that...

Terry Fox was courageous, he wasn't GREAT! There's a difference.

CBC is running a series called "The Greatest Canadian." The idea is that everybody nominated famous and not-so-famous Canadians that they felt were fantastic. CBC compiled the nominations, and is running a one-hour special about each of the top ten. A current Canadian celebrity advocates for their pick in each episode. It's *very* patriotic and rah-rah-Canada and ignore-the-bad-things, but that's OK sometimes. We're so polite, as a country, that we often forget how many truly Great things Canadians have achieved.

Check out the links in the post for more info, and I think you can even watch bits online.
