Despite sounding vaguely Socialist (the great Red Menace awakens!!), the idea of Car Co-ops seems to be catching on in many areas (thanks for the reminder, [livejournal.com profile] skaughty!). KW has one, and it sounds like a really good deal. The only down side is the lack of guaranteed access (i.e. if I suddenly need a car, they might already be booked). But otherwise, it seems really cool: no paying for gas, no paying for insurance, no paying for maintenance, repairs, or even freakin' carwashes.

Does anybody have any car-share experiences, good or bad, they can share?

A lot of the new condos going up in Vancouver come with a car-share program for the building. Because the city doesn't want to encourage people to bring their cars into the city, they've been working with the developers - so that they don't waste so much space on parking lots. This one particular building, Electric Avenue - the parking lot for the building won't be as large as it should, so they're going to bring in about 10 cars for the people that live there to use, which is a neat concept I think.
