So it's been a busy few days since I started work at the new office. A frustrating few days, too. Today is seeming much better though, which is a nice (if uncommon) feeling.
  • Got to work on Tuesday and met everybody, said hello. Found my desk, got a tour, blah blah blah.
  • Neglected to call my boss, who works in a different city, until 10 AM. She was not impressed. Spent remainder of day focusing on her needs, which seems to have helped.
  • She initially didn't think she had the budget for me, and also felt like I was transferred without her being consulted, so anything I can do to help that relationship would be good.
  • Before leaving Halifax, I packed up a PC and monitor along with all my files and stuff, so that I could continue burning CDs and DVDs for the whole country (one of my national roles). Found out when I got here that my stuff wasn't shipped because my boss' boss wasn't sure I should get to take a PC and monitor. As it turns out, Halifax is keeping the monitor, but I get everything else. Finally, after several days of thinking about it.
  • Found out that my work laptop is being paid for by Halifax, so really I shouldn't get to keep it here, meaning I have no PC to work on. I get to keep it until I'm in Halifax in eleven days.
  • I've been booked to teach all next week in Ottawa! Nice to have a trip, but sucks to spend another week away from [livejournal.com profile] leapfish.
  • I've been booked to teach all the following week in Halifax! Nice to visit Halifax, but really sucks to spend two weeks away from Vinny, with only the weekend in the middle. I hope he still loves me when I get home.
  • I found two grey hairs the other day. Moving is stressful. I yanked them, I'm not interested in silvery hair any time soon. :-)
  • One of our new couches from IKEA is broken already. I sat on it and a spring shot out the bottom. Would have killed a small pet, had there been one sitting there. I will be shoving it into the back of my parents' van, and driving it back to IKEA tomorrow evening. You are all invited to visit www.ikea.ca and pick out a replacement couch for us to buy. And some cushions.
  • I've decided to cancel my cell phone. I don't really need it now that all the moving in and connecting utilities is over with. But after having a cell for four years, it'll be a little weird to be without. It's like The 1900 House only with more technology.
  • The dryer technician is coming to check out the dryer in an hour or two. Hopefully he makes it all better
  • [livejournal.com profile] cap_hill_latte arrives this evening for a visit. Yay visitors!
  • My parents get back from PEI on Saturday morning, at which point we will be car-free again. Probably time to go bike-shopping!
And that's all for now. Further bulletins as events warrant. Stay tuned for local news, followed by An Andy Rooney Christmas.

I can see how the timing is less than ideal, but it'll be cool to have you in Ottawa for a bit! I assume that Polar Bear will be putting you up in a hotel, but if they have an arrangement where they'll give you cash if you don't need them to provide a hotel, you're more than welcome to crash on my sofa-bed and pocket the cash yourself.

I WISH they had that system, but I guess they don't want people taking advantage of it somehow. :) I'll be at the Best Western on O'Connor, hopefully with email access but not sure til I get there.

We should have dinner or something!

Yeah, that'd be great! And if they don't have e-mail access, I'll give you a set of keys to my place seeing that it's all of 3 minutes away from your hotel...

:-) I'll have internet all day long at work, so really I should try to find more enjoyable activities...

Sorry, Ottawa is currently out of enjoyable activities. Please come back in a couple of weeks to see if we've received new stock. (wait- that's Ikea) :P

I have no plans so far. Jason gets first crack, in case his schedule is crazy. But just book me and I'll show up! :)

Which couch did you buy? I'm looking at the catalog right now.

KLIPPAN. In natural white. It's not bad, but the fact that it broke really doesn't endear it to us. Plus we want a nicer one. :)

(that's the one we bought accidentally)

I was going to suggest the KARLANDA actually, but now that I look at it, it seems somewhat close to the KLIPPAN. Smaller though.

ALLEBY looks nice too :)

That's the other one we bought. In fact, the one we meant to buy originally. In black. It's quite nice.

I like Alleby. Sorry, ALLEBY. I suggested it to J before deciding that I like our new dining room set even better. Of course, our dining room table is now disassembled and stuffed in a closet 'cos it doesn't fit in our new place, and the chairs are dispersed throughout the apartment, but still.

ALLEBY was a good choice. What's with the ALL CAPS thing?
