Two things I've learned over the course of this move:

1. If someone says "we'll deliver between 7 AM and 1 PM," they really mean "we'll be there at about five minutes before one PM." (Rogers and IKEA so far, and Sears has nine minutes left to not be late)

Update that I know nobody cares about, but since I started the topic I better keep it up to date: Sears had a truck break down this morning, so everything's a few hours late. But I'm getting free delivery ($65) which is kinda nice.

2. Don't "pack" powdered dishwasher detergent, or an opened packet of curry spices, by simply placing them opening-downwards in a box. Now, technically I haven't learned this, because I already knew it. But Halifax Transfer's packers appear to have major problems with the concept. One of our kitchen cupboards smells like curry, and our bedding all smells like President's Choice Dishwashing Detergent.

Time to go assemble more stuff.

I was pleasently surprised when the cable guy - scheduled to show up between 12:00 and 15:00 - called at 14:00ish to apologize for running late and saying that he'd be there in five minutes. I was like, um, you're not late for another hour, but whatever.

When he got there he told me that the guy on the phone when I called to order service ripped me off by telling me that I needed to get 'premium' installation because there had never been cable internet in my unit before and that he'd get the charge for it taken off my bill.

Plus, he was kinda cute and totally got that I knew what I was talking about (the TabletPC with the "property of MSFT" probably tipped him off) and praised me for being his easiest installation all day.

All in all, a good cable installation experience. :o)

Of the movers and deliverers and installers I've had this time around, the score is 4 uncute, and 4 cute and/or hot. Decent ratio, I suppose.

I notice in the first 'during' picture that the carpets look really clean, the cleaners did good eh? Oh, and it's probably better the bedding smell like detergent - imagine if it smelled like curry.

p.s. nice new icon.

Thanks! [livejournal.com profile] simplisticton, [livejournal.com profile] purplemartini, [livejournal.com profile] leapfish and I went glow-in-the-dark mini-golfing in Halifax 20 months ago, and the original picture of all four of us has been on the fridge since then. It's quite nice, so I decided to do some crappy cut-and-paste action to turn it into a 100x100 of just me. Originally, I was in the top-left corner, hence the tilt o' the Cam (eron, not era).

The carpets are cleaner, but not *that* clean; it's just the lighting. For reference, compare the walls: they have not changed at all (I haven't even washed them yet, and they could use it!)
