For the impatient, skip to the final paragraph.

Two weeks ago is when it all started to fall apart, I think. Sure, the previous two months hadn't been all giggles, but it was really two weeks ago I think.

For those joining us late: [livejournal.com profile] leapfish's company was acquired, and he was told his job was in jeopardy. He applied to a firm in Montréal, and thought he would get the position. After much stringing along, the firm responded with a no. Then he looked into transferring within the new company to Kitchener-Waterloo. After some stringing along, the company responded with a no. Where did that leave us? three and a half weeks from homelessness with no new apartment, and an unknown number of months from single-salary-ness with no definitive plans.

To continue: two weeks ago we realized that we may actually be fucked. We had no new apartment lined up (having hoped to be exiting stage left for another area code altogether), plus the wedding was only seven weeks away and we had more questions than answers. The stress actually really hit at that point.

The worst of it was knowing that our trip to Ottawa (April 16-18) to deal with wedding stuff was preventing us from actually dealing with apartment stuff! We couldn't really search, or view, or sign, or do any of that stuff, until we returned.

Then in Ottawa I got sick, and I'm still not over it. Tonsilitis with acute need for naps. That also makes dealing with all the other stressors tricky. We tried to see if we could keep our apartment -- to late, it's gone. We tried to see if we could stay in the building -- too expensive, still have to deal with frustrating building and landlady. We tried to see if we could sublet something nearby for the summer -- too late, the good ones are gone, the bad ones are just horrid. Yesterday I looked at two ugly places that I vetoed without even taking Vinny to see them (check 'em out: http://istop.com/~cam/apts/).

Time to stop trying, and just get it done.

Today, we looked at three apartments in three buildings downtown, selected one of the three within three minutes, and signed the lease within three hours. Yay three. Now we know where we're going to be living.

Plus, the preceding stress removal operations in Ottawa went really well. We may actually calm down and almost relax soon! Yeah right. At least it'll be normal ohmygodi'mgettingmarried stress, rather than anything extra.

I hope.

Summary: we got a new apartment downtown. Yay! It's a one bedroom, with balcony, on the third floor. Invitations to help us move, and then help us consume Pizza, are forthcoming.
