Vinny and I have been looking for a change, as most of you know. We're trying to figure out whether "Vinny goes back to school" or "we both move to the UK" would work best.

Big decision this week: get a four-month sublet to make it easier to exit the country at the end of August, or sign a new one year lease in our current building to avoid the pain of moving.

Somebody make the decision for us, please?

A four month sublet could work with either plan ...

...except that it requires the pain of moving. :(

you do not want to move to the UK. My parent's friends did it, but they ended up having to move back since they couldn't afford anything. The price of renting is insane, not to mention the fact it is also 2 1/2 times the amount per canadian dollar.

The place is beautiful though and if you had unlimited funds I would say go for it and stay!!!

After you live somewhere for a year, you can automatically go on month to month if you notify the landlord 3 months in advance (The landlord needs to have a good reason to refuse.

I think the requirement is 3 months before the lease expires, but you may want to check into it. You could be "free and clear" by August

That would be back on February 1st, when we thought we were moving to Montréal. It's too late now. *sigh*

Did you ask your current landlord if she's willing to go month-to-month despite your notice to the contrary? Maybe she'd rather keep you guys around than have to find new tenants ...

Nope, because our apartment has already been rented to another set of gays. We are 100% guaranteed to be moving in 10 days. The only question is where.
