c9: (Global Warming)

If you could imagine a single picture that represented the unwillingness of Canadians and Americans to, for the most part, grasp global warming and the changes required, could you imagine something better than this?

I saw this when you posted it but didn't feel my thoughts were organized enough to respond until now.

Not that they're overly organized now, either.

But I keep looking at things like this and two thoughts occur to me:
  • The cold zone on this map is the US and Canada, and explains why many in our region can be so easily convinced that it is not real, since the relationship between "cold" and "global warming" is not understood.
  • I wonder if it is fair to bring another child into the world when it won't be the world I knew.

Duh, of course it is going to look like that when you use a base period of 1971 - 2000. The government doesn't want you to see what it looks like if you go back to 1969 and include up to 2005... This graph also proves that vaccines are evil. And notice how the blue dots just happen to show where H1N1 hit the hardest in October? Coincidence? I think not, all those people living in the middle of the ocean are really getting screwed with the swine flu... ;-)

PS: I know you know I'm kidding, but your blog readers probably don't. Are they producing those graphs for each month and do you have a link to them?

Yes, they come from the NOAA. Best place to find the link is at www.climateprogress.org . They posted it just a couple days ago.

Teehee! You actually make a good point though: thirty years is a very narrow time frame. I like looking at the much longer timeframes, just for more smoothing of the spikes.
