Up? Down?

I'm not posting much lately. Not sure why. For a while it was the Facebook cult of course, just like the rest of the planet. But now I'm not spending much time there either, except for the occasional Scrabulous game.*

Life has certainly been busy since moving to Toronto. Lots of socializing which is really good for the soul. Not the wallet, but whatever. The cats are lonely though -- we're late getting home quite often these days. Should we get them a nanny? Actually, they're about 6 now, so maybe we should enroll them in Cubs.**

I'm posting without a clear plan, just to get back into posting if I can. It is NaBloPoMo*** after all. (ironic sigh)

  • We've made very close new friends in Daryl & Bryce. They take up a lot of our time now. It's challenging because I've always had more time to myself and more down time in the past, and now I can barely keep up with our shared calendar! Not a bad thing, just different.
  • The house is getting attic insulation in eight days. Those of you who have stayed in our refrigeratorhouse before will be pleased.
  • Still working on getting a ventilation fan into the bathroom ceiling. Not much time left (eight days!) to do it before it gets more complicated, so I think it's going to wait until next year.
  • This weekend was a busy one.
    • Saturday:
      • Slept in
      • TTC to Davisville (where I was amused to find an Avis car rental shop) (simple minds, simple pleasures...)
      • Walked to St Clair
      • Decided that we must be close to Corso Italia, so we start walking west.
      • Bought a nifty clock that I cannot find a live battery for yet.
      • a little while later we decided to stop walking and get on a bus
      • Eaton Centre shopping -- three new shirts! Need to exchange one for a Large. Stupid H&M random sizing.
      • Excessively scrumptious dinner at Il Fornello, with many of us ordering from the All-Ontario menu. Not me, he said somewhat guiltily.
      • Free drinks (!) at Pegasus for Customer Appreciation Night.
      • Failed to take advantage of the insane sink-urinal arrangement when I was washing my hands and a hottie was peeing. Was mocked by friends.
      • Miscellaneous (NSFW)
      • Sleep
    • Sunday:
      • Slept in a bit
      • Shopped at insanely-big-and-crowded Superstore for Vin's LCBO gin-tasting supplies
      • Ate yummy burget at the burger version of New York Fries. South West Burger or somesuch.
      • Bought "Purr Pads" (fuzzy mats) to attract cats and keep them off furniture. Not as magical as packaging claimed.
      • Bought new smoke alarms and a fire extinguisher.
      • Grocery shopped for regular life supplies
      • Slow-cooked "Chicken in a Pot" for dinner
      • installed extinguisher
      • discovered that the free batteries included with the smoke alarms are dead of course
      • installed new towel bar on bathroom door
      • changed cat litter
      • spilled 150 screws and bolts on basement floor and didn't even swear or anything
      • actually posted content in my blog
      • organized some CDs
  • Go nested bulleted lists!
  • This list looks like bragging. I just meant to indicate that I was busy. I've just been slacking for months, so the comparison is stark in my mind.
  • Vinny's home!  Time to stop typing and be social. I hope everyone is well.

* Challenge me! It's not like I'm enjoying doing work...
** I forget if Cubs exists in the US. In Canada it's Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers, Rovers.
*** National Blog Posting Month or something like that. Not sure why the "National" is there.

Oh yeah, I forgot about rankings within each program. In Canada they're far less formal, although in Cubs there are Sixers, Seconds, and Cubs, and then in Scouts there's something but I forget what. None of the formal stuff and multiple levels like in the States.

I really like that icon.

I can't believe I still remembered the ranks off the top of my head. I guess 12 years in the organization will do that to you.

It's sort of ironic though, that I had my first sexual experience with another guy at boy scout camp, as homophobic as the organization is.

Me in the trees, or the escalator? A friend posted a link to a bunch of airport-style standardized symbols and I saved a bunch that I liked. The trees one is from a walk in High Park here in Toronto this spring.

Scouts Canada is much more welcoming, which you probably would guess based on Canada's style. It's also co-ed!

The trees. I like the green :)

Indeed, my first big Scouting Jamboree was actually with Scouts Canada somewhere on the Bay of Fundy in New Brunswick. Even at the age of 13, I was very impressed with their inclusive policies. :)

Seems to be a common occurrence. I found the 4 summers I spent as summer camp staff were very... enlightening.

Your imagination would be far more fun than any description I would be willing to share with the internet. :-)
