I just booked some promo fares on Porter Airlines, Canada's coolest airline. Woohoo!  They fly out of Toronto Island, which is about 25 minutes by public transit from us (and even closer when we leave from work), compared to an hour (or worse) with Pearson (Canada's busiest airport).

We're heading from Toronto to Halifax for the second weekend in August for the family reunion. The reunion is actually in PEI, but the chance to fly Porter for cheap was worth it, since to fly cheap we'd be heading for either Halifax or Moncton anyway, and renting a car anyway.

Exciting!

What do you think about Porter Airways? A lot of people hate it and say that having an airport in an already congested downtown pollutes it further and is an eyesore on the otherwise beautiful Toronto Islands.

I think I personally am from the opposite side. I think Porter Airways is great and considering that there is no proper transit link from downtown to Pearson, it serves a void well filled.

They definitely don't offend me or anything. I think you're right, they fill a niche quite well. If they were trying to be Air Canada and run super-noisy huge jets or something, the complaints might be a bit more appropriate, but the planes are small, quiet, new, efficient, and they only have like 12 flights a day.
