I can't believe it's been eight years already. I still remember pretty vividly the candlelight vigil that GALA held at UNB a couple weeks after his death. It was well-attended (for a GALA event) and quite moving.

I'm glad that sexuality is no longer such a big issue.

Note for [livejournal.com profile] skaughty: check out the attendance number on the Spectrum history page!

I don't think the media would be treating this any differently if Foley was a woman or if the page was female. If the page had been of the legal age, then yes, the "gay angle" would probably get (more) blown out of proportion.

25. interesting.. we had numbers ranging from 15 to 25-ish, right? also interesting to see that they're now holding meetings in a Sexuality Centre and have a library collection there!

Ugh. I've been doing all I can to avoid reading or hearing too much about the Foley issue because I didn't think I would have the stomach for the inevitable accusations that gay men all target children. And, sure enough, the so-con commentary is even more ridiculous than I could have imagined.

"Homosexuals reproduce sexually by molesting children."

I mean, c'mon.
