I wish I had gone to see Bon Cop, Bad Cop, even though it's probably your standard terrible Canadian attempt at an action movie, just to help get us over that damned $11.2 million.
(From CBC)
The bilingual cop movie Bon Cop, Bad Cop has taken in more than $9 million at the Quebec box office, making it the highest-grossing film ever in Quebec.

Colm Feore and David Bouchard face more than jurisdictional issues when a body is found straddling the Ontario-Quebec border. [go and look at the accompanying picture in the CBC article carefully! --Cam]

The comedy about a straitlaced Ontario cop, played by Colm Feore, and a roguish cop from Quebec, played by Patrick Huard, trying to solve a murder on the border of the two provinces passed a new milestone over the weekend.

Erik Canuel's roller-coaster thriller dethroned the previous highest-grossing film, 2002's Séraphin: Un homme et son péché.

It has earned more in Quebec than Hollywood blockbusters The Da Vinci Code and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.

Since opening Aug. 4, Bon Cop, Bad Cop has brought in $9,389,972 in Quebec. Elsewhere in Canada, the film has earned $1.3 million in ticket sales, putting its overall box office at more than $10 million.

It is not doing as well in English Canada as last year's Quebec hit, C.R.A.Z.Y, which earned $6.2 million in English Canada after scoring multiple Genie nominations.

The overall Canadian box office hit was Porky's, which earned $11.2 million in 1982.

The biggest grossing movie in the States last weekend? Jackass: Number Two (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/jackass_number_2/).

'Nuff said.

They just need to change the rules. Porky's only counts as Canadian because it was financed by a Canadian company. It was shot in Florida.

Bon Cop Bad Cop is an action-comedy and most of the riffing is on Ontario-Quebec relations.

i need to see both this AND C.R.A.Z.Y, and leave you with one parting thought:

I was just mentioning Porky's to one of the Kiwis last week, since they were going on about "highest grossing New Zealand films" and I felt a need to compete. Unfortunately they'd never heard of it...

The first time I saw the preview for Bon Cop I thought it was a joke. But it's a real "movie". Shame.
