I forgot to mention that I tracked down nutritional information for my other ridiculous beverage of choice, the Second Cup Icepresso Chiller. It's been added to the chart.

Verdict?
McDonald's is evil due to being a corporation. But it's convenient and cheap.
Starbucks is evil due to be being a corporation, but good due to being ethically sound and nice to its employees.
Second Cup wants to be an evil corporation but will probably get squashed between Starbucks and Tim Hortons*.

Health Verdict?
McDonald's: unhealthy in every way but fibre.
Starbucks and Second Cup: essentially equal in their "more healthy than McDonald's but not quite Health Food" status.

* which I note has officially lost the apostrophe in both languages.

Pfft. The word is meaningless. It's just like saying Supersize, Biggie, or Ford Expedition XL.

Actually venti is Italian for twenty, which is the amount of ounces the hot cup holds. The cold cup is 24 oz. but to give that size a different name would just confuse people more.

Ha! I love it. I knew that the many Starbucks experts on my friends list would get into this eventually. :)

Yeah I heard a rumour though that Starbucks was thinking of reverting back to S M L, but I think that would be stupid too. I'm used to tall, grande, venti....I order grande cokes from McDonalds, that's how used to it I am LOL.

Someone I knew who worked for *$s in Seattle mentioned that focus groups they'd been doing in the southern states showed that people there want options even bigger than the Venti. Think: Big Gulp Bucket o' Frappucino. But *$s doesn't want to give the people what they want because the company thinks it would cheapen its image. :-).

Clarification: Not that giving people what they want would cheapen *$'s image, but that selling Frappuchinos by the gallon would cheapen *$'s image. (Maybe they're worried about the inevetable "a gallon of Frappuchino costs less than a gallon of gas" comparison.)

I know that if Starbucks came up with a size larger than venti - that most partners would refuse to make them. Venti's already difficult enough to make given the logistics of everything. Big Gulps come out of a dispenser whereas our drinks are made to order.
