Update to previous post on this topic: Ten Things To Do (PDF)

We saw An Inconvenient Truth last night -- very enjoyable, entertaining, informative, and frightening. Highly recommended.

When we see movies in Waterloo, we usually walk one or both ways. Our original plan was to walk only one way, but we ended up walking home. The weather was fine, and we were awake, but it struck us as amusing/sad that we walked away from the theatre while so many others climbed into their cars parked along King Street and drove home, probably 5-10 km.
I was surprised by how much new information the movie had -- stuff from just a couple months ago, and stuff I didn't know at all. I hope that it sticks with me and really makes me change my behaviour, and I hope I keep posting about it rather than losing interest. If you're reading this and wishing I would just shut up about the environment, too bad. You might as well go hide your head in the sand now, rather than continue to be frustrated by reading this journal.

I have faith in humanity to find solutions to problems. I mean, check out this from Slashdot this morning: http://science.slashdot.org/science/06/06/27/1947249.shtml

I admit, it's a rather scary solution, but still, look, people are working on solutions. I welcome your hysteria, because the more hysteria there is, the more people are inspired to solve the problem.

I too believe we could resolve this issue, given a bit more political will. The problem is that humans are stupid, short-sighted, and selfish, especially in groups (like the House of Commons or U.S. Congress). So we choose what'a easiest, cheapest, and most comforting whenever we have the option.

That blocking out the sun plan is such a Simpsons gambit! :)

Strange timing. I just watched an episode of SouthPark that had Gore on it. They were highlighting his attempt previous to the movie he just made of finding and destroying another global problem: Man-Bear-Pig who is 50% man, 50% bear, and 50% pig. He is serial!

Man I hope it's still playing here. I've been too busy to go see it. If I miss it I really hope it gets a DVD release.
