"Nathalie Prevost then called a local radio station to ask for legal advice..."
I don't even care what the rest of the sentence says, that's just wrong.

I am so glad there are radio stations out there so I don't have to deal with stuff like this.

Well, I suppose it all depends on whether the radio show was "Legal Advice for Preteens" or "Sex with Sue".

Two of my brother's teachers ran into a similar issue on a class trip a few "Roll Up The Rim"s ago - one bought the other a cup of coffee. Upon rolling up the rim, it was discovered that the cup was worth a new minivan. I think in the end one the teachers paid the other half of the value of the van, and kept it.

Oh crap. This is going to be going on when I'm in Ontario later this month isn't it? As much as I can't stand Tim Hortons I'm drawn in by the siren call of Roll Up the Rim. It's like buying lotto tickets - only you get a hit of caffine before you can scratch off your prize.

Under the contest rules, the girls can't claim the prize directly because they are minors.

...meanwhile, the parents are just acting like minors. Nice role models.

I said "prosperous", not "populous". China may have opened enough sweatshops to creep up to seventh place on the IMF and World Bank ranking of nations by nominal GDP, but it's still ranked 88th in the UN Human Development Index, which sort of takes the wind out of their recent economic success (which is really only impressive because it had always been such a hellhole, anyway).

But it's trending up, not down. "Prosperous" connotes an increase in (wealth|power|happiness) over time. I predict China will be wealthier, more powerful, and happier than America in the future. Even if "happier" is defined as "told to be happy". :)

Not to engage in the "prosperous" vs. "populous" argument, but I read it as "preposterous". Which works for me.

I agree. These "republics" are no better than the tribes of the Dark continent. They've traded smoke signals for Blackberrys and spears for Glocks, but they shall crumble without a monarch.
