The NDP isn't running TV ads yet, they're instead doing online ads. Not bad actually, very focused and reasonable, like the rest of their campaign has been so far. As instructed by Jack Layton, I am passing it on!

Yeah, I really have appreciated a strong NDP recently. A big change from the 90s.

Oh crap. Does this mean that I'm actually going to have to think about my vote this year? Last time it was just a process of voting for the only party I thought could beat the one I didn't want to see win.

Well, there's two schools of thought outside Quebec:

1. Vote for the party whose policies you support, or
2. Vote for a party you don't support, but probably can beat a party you really don't support.

In case #2, you are guaranteed to get an MP whose policies you don't support. :)

But to answer more fairly, I'd recommend looking at the results in your riding last time. If Party X really has no chance, then looking at Party Y makes more sense.

Well, it was more of a case of there being two major parties whose policies I don’t really support wholeheartedly, and one party whose policies I oppose vehemently. So seeing one of the first two parties win over the other didn’t matter nearly as much as seeing the third party lose. And knowing my riding...

I really wish expats could chose their ridings. :-).

I actually am not certain I want an actual NDP government. It would be good for promoting three valid national parties, and that's a very good thing. But I actually disagree with enough of their policies that it might be frustrating too. :-) I'm finding myself at heart to be a Liberal, but promoting the NDP to keep us from moving too far right.

Sometimes I think about getting more involved, but I couldn't stick by a party that was way outside my comfort zone, and they all do that sometimes. :)

On a related note, has anyone been seriously gagging over the Conservative ads? Could they be any more condescending? Unfortunately, history has shown people respond positively to being condescended to most of the time. :(

Yeah. "I AM THE HARPER 3000. I CAN SING A SONG. DAISY, DAISY..."

I feel like putting together a counter-ad: "I'm tired of politicians treating us like Americans."

I loved the one Liberal ad that I saw on TV. It mentioned the strong track record for the economy under their auspices and mentioned how the Liberals managed to tackle several regional problems from across Canada from a federal perspective. It was a welcome change from the usual mud-slinging that Liberal and Conservative ad campaigns employ.
