UPDATED (see below)

I don't think I've told (m)any of you about the strange and wondrous place that is the Atlantic Technology Centre. The ATC was built just last year as a tech innovation and incubation centre for PEI (Prince Edward Island for the Yanks, it's twice the size of Rhode Island -- which I am shocked to discover just now is not an island at all! but i digress.)

The ATC, because it's supposed to be high-tech, has many high-tech things, high-speed internet and the like. I think, upon reflection, that all the high-tech-ness of PEI was completely crammed into this one building. Outside this building there are still ancient diners, slow traffic, corned-beef-and-cabbage lunch specials, and on and on -- distinctly non-21st-century details. But inside this building there's high-speed internet, many many insanely new computers, a movie studio, an animation studio, automatic toilets, sinks, dryers, AND (!) paper-towel dispensers... the elevators have glass walls, while the rest of the island has NO elevators, that sort of thing. I am continually awed.

But I still miss home.

UPDATE: I totally forgot to mention the two weird things that led to this post. First, this advanced building has all sorts of 'just different enough to seem high-tech' signage. The signs that lead to the bathroom show the "universal" stickman symbol, and then accompanying is the symbol for woman, but she only has one leg. It's odd. Also, when I was in the bathroom I could have *sworn* I heard a tiny female Japanese voice tell me to step back to flush the toilet. Or something. Very odd.
