Row, Row, Row Your Boat...
Jul. 28th, 2005 12:50 pmOur weekend at the cottage on Lac Montjoie was a good time, but a little too rushed for serious relaxation. This shows, I've discovered, in the pictures friends have posted. Frowning Cam, frowning Cam, frowning Cam, smiling Cam in distance, frowning Cam. *sigh*

Our weekend began with me flying from Halifax to Ottawa. Vinny met me there, and we drove the 2.5 hours from YOW to the lake. Arriving at the lake, the sun was setting, so we quickly grabbed a boat, then after finding water in it we selected a different boat. We had a vague map, but no cottages were visible and no lights or fires helped guide the way. After an hour of rowing on rough seas, we finally rounded a corner and found David (Vinny's best man) building a roaring fire to help us. Phew! Now we could sit, drink, relax, and... eat dinner at 10:30pm? Poor timing worked in our favour, yay food!
Stayed up late, but as I was almost asleep I headed for bed. Apparently Vinny was up the latest of them all. Next morning I made pancakes, everyone chowed down, and the full-scale relaxation was on! Wading at the beach (read: six foot strip of sand), playing with a tinytinytiny leech-and-or-eel, Gord riding a log that was a little out of his league... such hijinks.
That afternoon Eric came to get us in his motor-powered rowboat, and we headed for the other cabin for a gourmet dinner! Very tasty. Got to meet the rest of the fabulous, successful, attractive, bilingual gang. Made me feel a little inadequate. :-)
Took pictures, built fires, whiled away the hours until finally it was 1am and time to go. Tried to motorboat back to our cabin, but the motor wouldn't start, so some of us gave up and I rowed us back, followed by Gord (I think) rowing the other gang back on the other boat. After another 45 mins of rowing, I was tired but wide awake, so we stayed up a while longer, despite knowing Vinny and I had to wake early to leave and head home.
9am: awake
10am: leaving (rowing again, luckily this time we knew exactly where to go and had sunlight for once)
11am: at parking lot
1pm: at Hull
7pm: at Toronto
8pm: at home, meet up with Elyse and Dave, visit with them in a very lowkey, tired fashion.
Since then, I've driven to Mississauga and back twice (CTT+ course), Burlington and back twice (IKEA kitchen missing pieces), London once (this morning, to teach)... I am very anti-car right now. :) I'm taking Via Rail to Toronto to teach Tuesday and Wednesday, and I'm very excited.
And that's the end of my boring story. :)

Date: 2005-07-28 11:33 am (UTC)Would you be interested in having Adobe Illustrator? Once I get rid of my PC, I can send you my copy of it since I'll have to buy it again for Mac. It'd be really helpful for stuff like this and if you read some tutorials online, you may be able to use it for Wayves covers in the future.
If you want it, I can mail it... if you're not interested, then poo on you. :)

Date: 2005-07-28 11:36 am (UTC)Funny coincidence: I'm teaching Illustrator today.
Sucks that you're stuck buying a new copy. Make lots of Mac friends who you can (*ahem*) share things with.

Date: 2005-07-28 12:02 pm (UTC)Meh, if you don't want it, I'll just give it to someone else. I downloaded it originally anyway so it's not like I'm out any money.
I've already given it to Mike, and some other people. :)
