TO Pride 2005
Jun. 27th, 2005 05:46 pmA quick rundown of our weekend:
- drove to Paramount Canada's Wonderland on Friday morning, and rode rides and ate the occasional bad foodstuff until 20h30 or so.
jpman will be pleased / annoyed to know that I rode Top Gun, The Bat, Minebuster, Tomb Raider, Vortex, Dropzone, Dragon Fire, Thunder Run, and more! I chickened out of Cliffhanger, and
leapfish's sinuses tell me I made the right choice.
- tried to check in to the Delta Chelsea (Motto: "1000 rooms of gay gay gay!") but they had no record of my reservation through expedia. Demanded that I pay, presented that as the only way to get a room that night. So I did. We ran into a former Delta employee and friend Jamie, who hooked us up with a cheaper rate and better room, so that helped a bit. I'm still working on the Expedia refund.
- showered, drank Red Bull, and wandered up to Church St. Stood in an unmoving line for ten minutes before deciding to check out the other (as it turns out unmoving) lines. Ran into a bunch of Montréal and Toronto friends, so we walked with them for a bit, then somehow the decision was made to head back to our hotel room with the entire gang in tow. Turns out Jamie was our next door neighbour, and slept through our four hours of early-morning revelry. (No, not that kind of revelry, get your minds out of the gutter!)
- next morning we walked Church Street a bit more, found food, then
petele left for London for a few hours (crazy). We hit the Eaton Centre to dodge the heat, hit Church St again (but ran into few people we knew!), then headed back to the hotel. Turns out Michelle and Marla and Keigan, along with Deah, Meagan and Tymothy, were staying at the Delta too. So we did get a bit of visiting.
-
nihilicious and
gueny showed up next, with one opting for the far more intelligent conversation happening at floor level thanks to Keigan. (Wayves readers can find Keigan on the cover of Wayves for a second time this month! She's such a looker) Pete arrived around 20h30, and we headed for the restaurant shortly after. Luckily
saviolo hadn't completely given up and found us, and we got down to the serious business of eating.
- By the time we got back to the hotel, it was 23h00 and some were getting icky and tired, while others were itching to go out and make themselves tired. Vin and I opted to stay in, and were unconscious on the Saturday of Pride by midnight. Crazy. We were so much happier the following day for it though.
- Sunday: breakfast at Swiss Chalet (what?), jaunt on Church St with nothing too startling happening, then took up our traditional positions on top of Shoppers Drug Mart. We even had shade until float 6 or so. For reference, there were 83 floats this year, plus myriad marching groups.
- After the parade, we quickly got back to the hotel, grabbed our stuffed, and booked. I've heard that term before, and I think I'm using it correctly. :)
Home was quiet, not very gay, and not very proud. Hardly any dancing men in speedos. Sadly.
Now I attack the soon-to-be-gone kitchen cabinets. Wish me luck!
