As neat as it might be, I don't think I could handle the crowds on a flight on an Airbus A380.

Check out the coach section... 3 seats at each window, and four more in the middle... gah.

Update: For comparison, here's a typical 747 seating layout, with 416 passengers in 3 classes.

True -- but it's like having another half 747 on top! It would be like being in a crowded mall on Saturday afternoon!

LOL more than another half. That's why it's nice to fly up front. Legroom is nice, but the best part is NO OTHER PEOPLE!

LOL -- it's true! I think when standby passengers get put in first class, they should instead give them my seat and I'll go suffer up there.

One time [livejournal.com profile] leapfish and I were on standby, and he got the last coach seat, and then I got a seat in business class. He was not impressed.

No offence to you, but shame on the airline for that. They should be moving their frequent fliers (50,000+ miles per year people) up there and freeing up seats in coach.

That is what happened to me - I got upgraded to first class and they gave my seat in coach to a standby passenger.

It's happened to me several times.

From their point of view, who's worth rewarding with a free upgrade: someone who you know will keep coming back, or Joe Shmo who will only come back if you're the cheapest.

Oh I agree, now that we're getting up there in miles. :)

Actually, we determined that we can only just make the first status level with AC if we buy tix for all our remaining potential trips this year, rather than use any points. And even then we'll still be low class in the rankings.

LOL, yeah, it's amazing how slowly they seem to add up, eh?

I will end up (estimated) this year with:

DC - YVR x 6 = 30,000 miles
DC - singapore = 28,000 miles
DC - Amsterdam x 2 = 16,300 miles
DC - Minneapolis x2 = 3,700 miles
DC - LA x2 = 9,500 miles

So that makes 88,300 that I know of this year. I usually save my miles to use on the really long trips. We just cashed in almost 200,000 to go to Sydney for New Years, so really excited for that!
