According to the story, the pope's womanhood was discovered when she went into premature labour during a procession. Shocked and revolted, the crowd stoned the pope to death. A tiny Madonna shrine on the Via dei Querceti marks the spot where Joan, her believers claim, was killed and buried.

To prevent any similar deception, it is said, every newly elected pope has his genitals felt by the electing cardinals, groping through a hole in a ceremonial porphyry chair."

Are you trying to say we're predicatable? Harumph, or whatever the appropriatly indignant noise should be. I'm behind on the newest, most "in" sounds of indignation.
