Why do Atlantic Canadians love big things so much?

Sydney unveils world's largest illuminated fiddle. "It's going to be a major tourist attraction," said Cyril Hearn, who built the oversized instrument.

Though there are other large fiddles displayed in Atlantic Canada – including one in Don Messer's hometown of Harvey, N.B., and another in Cavendish, P.E.I. – organizers are calling the Sydney fiddle the "world's largest illuminated fiddle" in hopes that it will be a major attraction for the city.

Despite the aggressive and eager e-mails I get from Air Canada on a near-daily basis, I have no intention of travelling ANYWHERE to look at a giant illuminated fiddle.

Of course, I grew up in a city that had the tallest building in the world without a steel frame, as well as the largest fully functional pipe organ and the largest ringable bell.
