Montréal Part Deux
Nov. 7th, 2004 09:09 amSaturday was lots of fun. Met
gotwoody for breakfast at Cora's in the village. Then wandered and shopped a bit.
leapfish and I both bought belts. He also found (after much searching) some DEE-EH-SELL (Diesel) cologne. We had both tried pronouncing it in New Brunswick French (deeeZULL) but were corrected.
Had something called MooZoo juice at an AL Van Houtte (coffee place). It was cranberries and raspberries and sugar all mushed together at a factory. Very tasty, but very syrupy too. Could easily have been watered down by 200% or so, made a jug of it to share.
Had late lunch at Soupebol, an Asian fusion soup-centred place. Very tasty. I had Chicken Yam Tom (Spicy) and it was each of those things. Spicy especially. Especially later, if you know what I mean.
Made our way back to the hotel bar to await various friends and soon-to-be-friends.
quebec_city_boy and Fred arrived first, so we had to carefully chat without telling him that
gotwoody was not just surprising Vinny, but also him, on his surprising North America tour. Great look on his face when the guy supposedly in England walked in and sat beside him. Next we had Marie-Noëlle and Sebastien, friends from Halifax who recently moved to Montréal for work much like our move to KW. They have no livejournals. And if they did, they'd be in French, which would be useful to only a handful of you, faithful readers.
Finally,
senhor and
jdhorner arrived. I had originally worried that I might not recognize them right away, and perhaps they'd be stuck at a table alone wondering where we were. BUt our position at the door, and their willingness to place actual likenesses of themselves on teh intarweb, meant that they were easy to spot. Both fantastically fun, funny, and super-cool doods. It was nice to connect with them in the real world! I hope we didn't scare them.
Many drinks (except for your faithful narrator), then a trip to Le Drugstore for games of pool. Many, many, games of pool. I sucked so hard at my first two games, that karmic retribution or something came into play and I whipped Fred's ass like ... umm... something that needs whipping. Or something. Anyway, I did really well. It was weird.
Ahh, the smoke. Good old Montréal, with its smoking everywhere. We were in the basement with a bunch of somking lesbians, so the air was kinda thick. I'm amazed I lasted as long as I did, but those who know me well know I always do better at the bars when I have something to keep me amused. I sometimes even play pool with myself!
Drove Josh and Tobin home (the Metro was finished for the night), then got only marginally lost on the way back into town (sure, why not tour the south shore?). Asleep by 4, not too bad.
Time for a new day! Cue the Celine music, just for
iambic_cub!
