Yesterday, after months of hemming and hawing and other colloquial verbs, I purchased a laptop. Thanks to the suspects, who helped with their wedding gift. :)

I bought this one:
.

It was only $1399 (Canadian) at Future Shop. I thought that was pretty good. Thing is, today a sale started and it's $100 cheaper. So I'll be dropping in at the store in an hour or three to get my partial refund.

Specs:
- AMD Athlon XP-M 2200+ with PowerNow
- 512 MB DDR RAM
- 60 GB
- DVD-ROM + CD-RW combo drive
- 802.11g
- 12.1" XGA TFT
- 1" thick
- 1.95 kg (4.3 lbs)
- same footprint as an 8.5"x11" piece of paper, with one more inch in width added. VERY small, VERY light. So nice. :-)

UPDATE: I just looked closer, and that's not actually a picture of my laptop. It's similar though. Here's another picture, this is more accurate, though less detailed at the same time.

YAY for laptops! I FINALLY got mine today (just 5 minutes ago). It's not a T-series as I had hoped, but it's alright nonetheless. Centrino 1.4, 512 / 40, wireless, etc. Only thing that sucks is that it's an XGA screen so it maxes out at 1024. I was really hoping for an SXga. I like having a lot of real estate. Oh well. It's great to be online again (and first thing I do is email and LJ! Geez, i'm such a geek!).

I was focusing on portability for mine, so XGA is fine. I looked at a few others, but laptops only come in two varieties now: small screen, and screen you could lie down and nap on top of. Too big and heavy.

Aww... how cute... it's trying to look like a PowerBook!

I plan to encourage that behaviour.

Ooo! snazzy.
What's the video resolution? Does it have USB-2? Firewire? Extra battery port (swappable for CD maybe?) DVI connector? Dock option?

Also shopping for a PC laptop. My Powerbook is back at Apple in Canada getting fixed..
