Quiet evening last night. Went to Vortex for supper, and chatted with Carl and Sandy. The place is open, and doing OK (they say). Reading between the lines, the place is open and surviving, but is fragile. Still trying to sell, hopefully to a real person not just an alias next time.

Had dinner. They forgot to put in my garlic bread order. Then they forgot to take the order out of the oven, so it burned. But finally, I got some garlic bread. They tried to give it to me for free, but of course that place is in no shape to give away food, so Polar Bear has now made a $4.50 donation to the Keep Vortex Alive After Getting Mammothly Fucked Campaign. "My company's paying and you guys are in no shape to give away food right now, so charge me for it." Waitress: "At least let us give you the burned ones to take home!"

Had two drinks with dinner, and during dinner started to get a headache. By the time I got back to the hotel it was a real headache, not just a little one. So I went to bed, and waited for Vinny to call. We chatted, I went back to sleep, and apparently he went out and made a friend! I woke up all night long with me head still hurting, but nothing I could do. This morning I bought some migraine-level Advil and took some, and it helped somewhat. I can still feel it in the side of my head though. Not nice. If I'm not 100% in a few hours, I'm not sure what I'll do. Be annoyed, at the least.

Tonight is phone call from Vinny, then Five Minutes of Fame with LuLu LaRude at Vortex. Then bed. Tomorrow I teach for half the day, then we're probably done, and I can relax for a few hours until my flight home.

I can't wait to get home. I was telling my Dad this morning that I've lost track of what day it is, *and* what city it is. Too many hotels.

Bleh. Time for some lunch.

Smirnoff Ice times two. Must be it. It's weird though, they've never hit me badly before. Maybe I need to learn to like beer or something. :)

Carl, co-owner of Vortex, decided to sell. He gave the keys and some money to this guy who had been in the city for a while but was apparently lying about his entire existence. The guy wrote bad cheques (a lot of them), stole everybody's pay for a few weeks, and skipped town. So the bar is in dire straits, but still open. Several staff are working for free until it settles. Sandy was moving to Montreal this week, but that got cancelled since he was out significant funds. He's rescheduled for November.

I think that's all the salient details.
